Canisius Game Notes

1) Opening Faceoff
The Canisius men's lacrosse team returns home to host Quinnipiac in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference matchup. Opening faceoff for the contest between the Golden Griffins and Bobcats is set for 11 a.m. at the Demske Sports Complex.

2) Series Notes
In 14 all-time meetings between the two schools, Quinnipiac holds a 9-5 lead over Canisius. Since the Bobcats rejoined the MAAC prior to the 2014 season, the Bobcats hold a slim 5-4 edge over the Griffs in that time frame. Canisius enters Saturday's tilt having won two of its last three contests against the Bobcats, including a 10-7 triumph in their most recent meeting at the Demske Sports Complex back on April 6, 2019. Last April, Quinnipiac posted a 16-12 victory over Canisius at the Quinnipiac Soccer and Lacrosse Stadium in Hamden, Conn.

3) Showdown at the Faceoff X
Saturday's contest features two of the best faceoff specialists in the MAAC as Canisius freshman Johnny Richiusa squares off against Quinnipiac's Demitri George. George leads the league in both face-off winning percentage (.573) and ground balls per game (7.75), while Richiusa is third in the league in winning percentage (.533) and second in ground balls per contest (6.90). Together, the tandem has combined to win four of the seven MAAC Face-Off Player of the Week awards given out this season.

4) A Display of Depth at Manhattan
Canisius' offensive depth was on full display during the Griffs matchup with Manhattan last Saturday as 10 different players scored a goal in the contest, with senior attackman Jacob Buck serving the lone multi-goal scorer for the Blue and Gold. Of the 10 players who found the back of the net, junior Kyle Brunsch and freshman Johnny Richiusa both scored their first career goals while sophomore Andrew Schermerhorn netted his first goal of the campaign and third of his career. Junior Ethan Coughlin finished with multiple points in a game for the first time in his career as he recorded a goal and an assist during the matchup.

5) Eells Electric on Defense
Senior Kevin Eells has been a disruptive force on the defense end of the field for the Griffs during the past three games as he has racked up a team-best six caused turnovers in that span. The Monument, Colo., native, who leads the team with 10 caused turnovers this season, tallied two caused turnovers at Vermont on March 26 before posting a career-best three caused turnovers during the Griffs contest at Manhattan on April 2.
