FIVE THINGS TO KNOW

1. First Pitch
The Canisius softball team travels to Central New York for a non-conference doubleheader against the Syracuse Orange Wednesday afternoon.

First pitch of game one is slated for 1 p.m. from Skytop Softball Stadium. The games will be broadcasted on ACC Network Extra.

2. Giese Makes History
Sophomore Megan Giese tossed the 29th no-hitter in Canisius history on Sunday afternoon in Canisius' 6-0 victory over Monmouth.

Giese fanned a career-high 12 batters, while becoming the first Golden Griffin pitcher to throw an individual seven-inning no-no since Andrea Bunten on March 25, 2005.

Bunten, who defeated Binghamton, also fanned 12 batters.

Giese has hurled a complete game in five consecutive starts, while striking out ten or more batters in three of her last four starts in the circle.

Making a pair of starts in each of the first two weekends of conference play, Giese has fanned 21 and 20 batters, respectively, good for 41 strikeouts against MAAC opponents.

3. Pair of MAAC Honors
For the second time this season, Giese and freshman Saige Alfaro were recognized for their performances by the conference.

Following the dominant games in the circle, Giese was named the MAAC's Pitcher of the Week.

Alfaro garnered Rookie of the Week honors following a strong week at the plate.

To date, Canisius has earned six weekly awards, with sophomores Gianna Fazzolari and Christie McGee-Ross picking up Player of the Week awards in the first two weeks of the campaign.

4. Alfaro's Raking
Alfaro picked up a hit in all six games last week, including four multi-hit performances.

Alfaro had 11 hits in 20 at bats during the stretch, crossing the plate four times and driving in a run.

During her freshman campaign, the Chula Vista, Calif., native has nine multi-hit games in 29 appearances, while recording a hit in 23 of those contests.

5. Heading to the Capital District
Canisius heads to the other end of the state for a Saturday doubleheader against Siena.

First pitch against the Saints is slated for noon from the Siena Softball Field in Loudonville, N.Y.
