Five Things to Know:

1) MAAC Opener
The Canisius women's lacrosse team opens MAAC play on the road Saturday when it visits Manhattan for a noon contest at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, N.Y. The Golden Griffins compiled a 5-2 record against non-league opponents this season, while the Jaspers closed out their non-conference slate with six wins and three losses.

Last Saturday, the Griffs defeated Youngstown State by a score of 12-9. Junior Paige Stachura led Canisius with a career-high five points on four goals and one assist, while senior Skylar McArthur and sophomore Riley Davis each netted a pair of goals in the victory.

2) Nice to See You
Canisius and Manhattan will meet for the 23rd time Saturday afternoon. The Griffs hold a 12-10 advantage in the all-time series that began in 1998.

The Jaspers were victorious in the last meeting between the two teams on March 22, 2019 in Riverdale, N.Y. The 15-10 win snapped the Griffs' 11-game win streak over Manhattan.

3) Road Warriors
With its victory over Youngstown State in Youngstown, Ohio, last Saturday, Canisius improved to 4-0 on the road for the first time in program history.

The Griffs opened the 2022 season with three straight road wins against Bucknell (14-12), Robert Morris (16-11) and Saint Francis (Pa.) (14-8). Canisius saw a road contest versus Binghamton canceled and one with St. Bonaventure postponed due to inclement weather before taking down the Penguins.

4) Causing Turnovers
The Griffs have caused problems for teams so far this season, as they are currently first in the MAAC and 12th in the nation in caused turnovers per game with 10.14. Senior Katie Smolensky leads the team with 13 caused turnovers this season, while McArthur has added 10 of her own. Stachura and sophomore Meghan Ellis each have eight caused turnovers in the campaign.

5) Offensive Charge
Canisius continues to have a balanced scoring attack, with seven players posting 10 or more points through the first seven games of the 2022 campaign. Sophomore Caroline Netti paces the squad with 20 goals on the season while Smolensky leads the Griffs' offense with 26 points and a team-high 13 assists. Stachura is second in both goals and points with 18 and 24, respectively.

The Griffs have scored 92 goals through the first seven games this season, which marks the most tallies to begin a season in program history. The next best came in the 2017 campaign when Canisius netted 89 goals through the first seven contests.
