Four Women's Lacrosse Players Earn All-MAAC Honors

Four Canisius women's lacrosse players were recognized by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) on Friday, as the league announced its 2026 conference awards.

Freshman Ella Forcucci was named the 2026 MAAC Rookie of the Year, and was selected to the All-MAAC First Team and the league's All-Rookie Team. Juniors Maddie FitzgeraldMegan Previdi and Harper Weatherdon were named Second-Team All-MAAC. The MAAC's postseason awards are voted on by the league's head coaches.

A unanimous selection as the MAAC's Rookie of the Year, Forcucci is the fourth player in program history to be tabbed as the league's top rookie, joining Fitzgerald (2024) and former Golden Griffins Tessa Chad (2016) and Erica Evans (2015). A five-time MAAC Rookie of the Week honoree this season, Forcucci leads all MAAC freshmen with her 67 points, and her 51 goals are second-most for any player in the conference this year.

A three-time MAAC Offensive Player of the Week selection, Forcucci's 67 points and 51 goals are both program records for a freshman.
The Orchard Park, N.Y., native's season includes five games with five goals scored, and she posted a seven-point outing on Feb. 18, in the Blue and Gold's home win over Eastern Michigan. She is tied for 38th nationally (tied for second among all Division I freshmen) in total points, and her 51 goals are the most for any freshman in the country, as of April 23.

Fitzgerald earned All-MAAC Second Team honors for the second-straight season after she posted 25 goals in 16 regular-season games this year. The 2024 MAAC Rookie of the Year and a 2024 MAAC All-Rookie honoree, Fitzgerald recorded her 100th career point in a win at Mount St. Mary's on April 11 after she scored twice and was credited with an assist. The Rochester, N.Y., native has scored multiple goals in nine games to date, highlighted by season-best five-goal performance in the team's home win over Marist on April 4.

A junior from Montclair, N.J., Previdi was chosen to the All-MAAC Second Team after she was voted to the MAAC's All-Rookie Team following the 2024 campaign. She has dished out multiple assists in 12 games this season, and her 48 assists set a program record for assists in a single-season, passing the previous mark of 47, set by Carly Quinn in 2012. She was good for a career-high seven assists in the team's home win over Mercyhurst on March 5, and she followed the performance with a six-assist effort in the home win over Marist on April 4. The MAAC leader with 3.0 assists per game, Previdi is tied for eighth in the nation in both assists per game and total assists.

Weatherdon, who earned all-league honors for the first time in her career with her appointment to the All-MAAC Second Team, ranks third on the roster with he 22 ground balls, and her 17 caused turnovers is tied for the team lead. She is one of eight players in the MAAC this season to record five-or more caused turnovers in a game after she had five in the Griffs' win over Le Moyne on March 11. The junior from Waterloo, Ontario, has a caused turnover in five of Canisius' eight league games this season.

In addition to the Griffs' on-field honorees, Canisius had 17 student-athletes earn MAAC All-Academic Team honors, as well. To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete needs to be a sophomore in academic standing, have been at their school for one-full academic year and hold a 3.20 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.  The entire list can be found below:
