Five Things to Know:

1) Back in Action
The Canisius women's lacrosse team opens its 2022 campaign on Saturday when the Golden Griffins face Bucknell at 12 p.m. The game marks the first of a three-game road slate, with visits to Robert Morris and Saint Francis (Pa.) on Feb. 19 and 23. For the first time since the 2019 season, the Golden Griffins will play their traditional 17-game schedule that features seven home games and 10 road contests.

2) First Meeting
Saturday's matchup with the Bison marks the first meeting between the teams in program history. Canisius is 3-4 all-time versus teams representing the Patriot League, while Bucknell is 12-11 versus teams representing the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

3) The Allen Era
Canisius officially begins the Russell Allen era this weekend. Allen will be coaching the 100th game of his career and first as a Golden Griffin when the Blue & Gold take on the Bison at Holmes Stadium.

Allen enters his seventh season as a head coach, boasting a 69-30 career record over that time. He takes over the Canisius women's lacrosse program having spent the previous three seasons as the head coach at Concordia University Chicago in River Forest, Ill. There, the Orange, Conn., native led the Cougars to a 25-8 overall record.

4) Davis Does It All
Riley Davis begins her sophomore season with the Griffs having appeared in all 10 games during her rookie campaign. Davis, a product of Painted Post, N.Y., finished second on the team with 19 goals and 23 points last season. The standout midfielder recorded a point in all 10 games, with eight multi-point performances. Defensively, Davis tied for first on the team with eight caused turnovers.

Her performance garnered conference recognition, as she was selected the MAAC Rookie of the Week twice during the campaign and was one of two unanimous choices to the 2021 All-MAAC Rookie Team.

5) Canisius Seventh in Preseason Poll
The Golden Griffins were picked seventh in the MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll, the conference announced on Feb. 4. Three-time defending champion Fairfield was picked as the favorite to take home a fourth consecutive title in 2022. The Stags have won six MAAC Championships, which is tied with Canisius for the most in league history.

Fairfield secured six first-place votes and 77 total votes for the top spot, while Siena took a close second with three first-place votes and 75 total votes. Monmouth claimed third place with 62. Niagara and Quinnipiac finished fourth and fifth, respectively, with 48 and 43. They were followed by Marist (41), Canisius (22), Manhattan (21) and Iona (16).
