Appenheimer Earns All-MAAC Honors at MAAC Championships

Senior Tom Appenheimer garnered All-MAAC accolades for a third straight season to pace the Canisius men's and women's cross country teams in the 2022 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships Saturday at the Crossing of Colonie in Loudonville, N.Y.
 
In the men's 8k race, Appenheimer finished 10th with a time of 24:34.9, more than three seconds ahead of Iona's Graham Baird (24:37.4). Fellow senior Andrew Perreault claimed 23rd, crossing the finish line with a time of 25:24.8, while graduate student Michael Peppy was 29th (25:48.9). Juniors Thomson Chew (25:58.1) and Kevin Board (25:59.2) placed 34th and 35th, respectively, to round out Canisius' scoring runners.
 
The men placed fifth with a team total of 131 points. Iona won its 32nd-consecutive men's title with team total of 17 points as the Gaels had seven runner finish in the top eighth. Siena was second with 61 team points while Marist (96) was third and Rider claimed fourth (100).     
 
Senior Marissa Silba led the Canisius women, claiming 19th overall with a time of 22:30.6 over the 6k course. Fellow senior Olivia Moran (22:37.7) placed 24th and junior Jules Jones (22:40.5) finished 25th, giving the Griffs three runners in the Top 25 at the MAAC Championships for the first time since 2010. Freshman Jacqueline Appenheimer (23:26.8/41st) and sophomore Taylor Hescke (24:35.1/52nd) completed Canisius' scoring runners.
 
The women placed sixth with a team total of 161 points. Quinnipiac captured the women's team title as the Bobcats finished with team total of 26 points, placing its five scoring runners in the top nine. Siena placed second with 46 team points while Iona (65) was third, Marist (131) claimed fourth and Rider (144) was fifth.

Up Next
Canisius will take part in the 2022 NCAA Northeast Regional. The race is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 11, at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.
