Haskell Named to MAAC Preseason Second Team

Junior guard Dani Haskell was named to the Preseason All-MAAC Second Team, the league office announced Tuesday.

"A well deserved recognition and honor for Dani" said head coach Sahar Nusseibeh. "We relied on Dani heavily last year as just a sophomore, & she embraced the challenge. Her growth over the course of this off-season is what I am most proud of. She is learning how to add value beyond a tremendous scoring ability. We are very excited for her to be highlighted with our team this season!"

The Franklinville, N.Y., native had a season to remember last year, averaging 14.4 points per game, 66 made 3 pointers with a .300 3-point percentage, 123 rebounds and 42 steals in 31 games. Haskell was the only player to start and play in all 31 games and led the Golden Griffins in points per game, three pointers made and steals. She was also named to the All-MAAC Third Team and scored 26 points in the MAAC Championship Opening Round upset of No. 6 seed Monmouth.

As a team, the Griffs were picked to finish tied with Siena for ninth place. Quinnipiac was picked first with eight first-place votes with 117 total points, Manhattan second with three first-place votes (112) and Battle of the Bridge rival Niagara was tabbed to third-place (94). Last season's MAAC Postseason champion Fairfield was tabbed fourth (74).

The Griffs open the season at home on Nov. 7 when they welcome Big Four rival Buffalo to the Koessler Athletic Center in an opening-night doubleheader with tip-off set for 5 p.m. MAAC play starts for the Blue and Gold on Dec. 17 when they face Rider at 1 p.m. with that match also at home.
