Jordan Henderson Named Preseason All-MAAC

Canisius graduate student Jordan Henderson was named to the 2022-23 Preseason All-MAAC Second Team, the conference office announced Tuesday night during its annual preseason awards show on ESPN3. The 2022-23 Preseason All-MAAC teams and the league's annual preseason poll were voted on by the conference's 11 head coaches.

Henderson is joined on the Preseason All-MAAC Second Team by Iona guard Walter Clayton Jr., Manhattan guard Ant Nelson, Niagara guard Noah Thomasson and Siena forward Jackson Stormo. In all, 15 players were chosen to the Preseason All-MAAC Teams (first, second and third), with Manhattan guard Jose Perez earning 2022-23 Preseason MAAC Player of the Year accolades.

Last season, Henderson started all 32 games for the Golden Griffins, where he averaged 11.0 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. He scored a career-high 25 points in a road win at Quinnipiac, and closed out the year by posting 10-or more points in the scoring column 15 times.

The Cincinnati, Ohio native led the 2021-22 squad with 61 makes from behind the 3-point line, and his 1.9 3-pointers per game ranked ninth-best in the league. One of 18 players in school history with 100-plus career 3-point field goals, Henderson enters his final season on Main Street with 140 career 3-pointers, which ranks 11th in school history.

As a team, Canisius was picked to finish 11th in the MAAC in the coaches' annual preseason poll with 22 points. Iona was chosen as the favorites to claim the 2022-23 MAAC title, as the Gaels received 10 first-place votes and 119 total points. Manhattan was picked to finish second with 104 points, and one first-place vote, while Rider was tabbed to place third with 101 points. Quinnipiac (80 points) and Fairfield (77 points) were chosen in fourth and fifth places.

Siena (70 points) and Marist (41 points) were picked for spots six and seven, with Niagara and Saint Peter's tying for eighth-place in the preseason poll with 39 points. MAAC newcomer Mount St. Mary's was tabbed 10th in the poll with 34 points.

The Griffs return three starters and five letterwinners from last year's team that went 11-21 overall and 7-13 in MAAC play. The Griffs will open the 119th season in program history on Nov. 7, when the team hosts Youngstown State in the back end of a basketball doubleheader, with tip-off at the Koessler Athletic Center scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
