Women’s Basketball Adds Hernandez-Boulden to Roster

Canisius women's basketball head coach Sahar Nusseibeh announced Wednesday that Giana Hernandez-Boulden has joined the program as a mid-year transfer.

Due to NCAA transfer regulations, Hernandez-Boulden is not eligible to participate in any games for the remainder of the 2021-22 season.

"We are excited to welcome Giana to our Griffs family," Nusseibeh said. "Giana is an extremely versatile guard who can score at all three levels and will fit our up-tempo vision. Her length and athleticism contribute to her ability to add significant value with rebounding and on the defensive side of the floor. She is someone who will help elevate our program with her natural ability, strong desire to grow her game and she will add value to our team however she can. Canisius women's basketball just got better and we look forward to having her officially compete in the 2022-23 season."

Hernandez-Boulden arrives on Main Street after starting the 2020-21 campaign at West Virginia before later transferring to Rhode Island. She has yet to appear in a collegiate game.

The 6-foot-1 guard from Hamilton, N.J., averaged 11 points and seven rebounds during her senior campaign at Trenton Catholic Academy, aiding the Iron Mikes to a 28-1 record and a Mercer County Tournament Championship title. Hernandez-Boulden was a 2020 McDonald's All-American Game nominee and was the 59th-ranked guard in the class of 2020 by ESPN.

During her prep career at Trenton Catholic, Hernandez-Boulden was voted The Trentonian Player of the Year in 2020 and was a two-time All-Area First Team nominee. She was also on the Trenton Catholic Academy's team that made three consecutive Mercer County Championship game appearances.

Additionally, Hernandez-Boulden represented Puerto Rico in the 2017 FIBA Under-16 America's Women's Basketball Championship in Argentina. In five appearances, she averaged 6.4 points and 4.6 rebounds in just under 20 minutes per game.

Canisius returns to action on Thursday when the Golden Griffins host Quinnipiac at the Koessler Athletic Center for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
