FIVE THINGS TO KNOW

1. Opening Tip
The Canisius women's basketball team heads to the Jersey Shore for the middle contest of its three-game road trip. Tipoff between the Golden Griffins and Hawks from OceanFirst Bank Center in West Long Branch, N.J., is set for 2 p.m.

2. Last Time Out
Freshman guard Athina Lexa had a career day Thursday in the Griffs' 74-55 loss to Saint Peter's, recording season highs with 14 points and four rebounds.

Junior guard Shaunae Brown continued her success against the Peacocks, scoring 12 points on a career-high four 3-pointers. Brown has now scored 12-plus points in each of her last four games against Saint Peter's.

Saint Peter's graduate student Kendrea Williams led the Peacocks scoring attack, netting a career-high 28 points. Junior center Kassondra Brown added 17 points and eight rebounds for the victors.

3. Series History
Canisius and Monmouth will meet for the 18th time this afternoon at OceanFirst Bank Center, with all meetings occurring since the Hawks joined the MAAC before the 2013-14 season.

The Griffs lead the all-time series, 9-8, and are 3-4 against the Hawks in West Long Branch, N.J.

Today is the first time the Griffs are playing in West Long Branch since a 71-62 victory on Jan. 4, 2020, a span of 749 days.

Canisius has won three of the last four in the series against Monmouth, including each of the last two meetings.

4. Shooting the Long Ball
Canisius enters Saturday's contest averaging 7.4 made 3-pointers per game, leading the MAAC and ranking 61st nationally. Monmouth is second in the MAAC (tied for 98th in Division I) with its average of 6.7 made 3-pointers per contest.

Dating back to the beginning of the 2020-21 season, Canisius has had a reliance on the 3-point shot.

Canisius has scored 432 of its 1087 points (39.7 percent) from 3-point field goals, which is the 8th-highest percentage for a Division I program. Fairfield is the closest MAAC school to the Griffs, ranking 103rd with 30.8 percent (591 of 1920 points).

For the 2021-22 season, Canisius has the 16th-highest percentage of points off 3-pointers (39.5%), while Monmouth is second in the MAAC and 52nd nationally with 34.7 percent of its points coming from 3-pointers.

5. Porter Closing in History
Freshman forward Rhay Porter's 21 blocks are already nearing a Canisius freshman record.

Her 21 rejections in 14 appearances rank as the third-most by a first-year player in Canisius' Division I era. Porter has recorded a block in 11 of her 14 collegiate appearances this season.

No Canisius player has recorded at least 20 blocks since Tiana Pugh posted 22 blocks in as many games during the 2019-20 season.

Porter is one block shy of tying Whitney Ellenor for the second-most blocks by a Canisius first-year player and is seven away from tying Jen Lennox's freshman record for blocks (28 in 2010-11).
