Game Notes: Canisius | Holy Cross

1) Puck Drop
The Canisius hockey team completes a four-game road swing this weekend with a visit to Holy Cross for a two-game Atlantic Hockey Association series. The opener is slated for a 6 p.m. puck drop on Friday while Saturday's game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start. Both games will be played at the Hart Center in Worcester, Mass.

2) Long Time No See
The matchup between Canisius and Holy Cross this weekend serves as the first meeting between the programs in more than two years. Their last meeting took place back on Dec. 28-29, 2019, a series that saw the Golden Griffins take both games from the Crusaders at LECOM Harborcenter. Canisius is also making its first visit to the Hart Center since October 2018, when it opened the season with split of a league series against Holy Cross.

3) Getting in front of Pucks
Shots on goal will be at a premium this weekend as Canisius (341) and Holy Cross (323) rank 1-2 in Atlantic Hockey in total blocked shots this season. The Griffs have finished with 20 or more blocked shots in six games this season while the Crusaders have recorded 20 or more blocked shots on three occasions in 2021-22.

4) Mobley Returns
For Canisius assistant coach Max Mobley, the weekend series against Holy Cross will serve as a reunion of sorts as he returns to Worcester for the first time since he left the Crusaders to join the Canisius program in July. In his two seasons with the Crusaders, Mobley served as the program's recruiting coordinator and also headed the skills development program for the team's forwards. He aided in the development of All-AHA Eastern Pod Second Team selection Matt Slick and was also influential in the maturation of a forward group that saw three players record double-digit goals during the 2019-20 campaign.

5) Barczewki Garners Third AHA Weekly Award Following Army Series
Junior goaltender Jacob Barczewski was named the Atlantic Hockey Association's Goaltender of the Week for the third time this season on Monday. Barczewski recorded 76 saves in helping guide the Griffs to a split of their league series at Army last weekend. He began the two-game set by posting a career-high 42 saves in a 5-3 victory over the Black Knights. In the series finale, Barczewski stopped 34 shots in an eventual 3-0 setback. With his two performances over the weekend, Barczewski has now made 30 or more saves in six games this this season.
