GAME TWO RECAP
Carlin Dick tied the Canisius program record for runs scored (5) in the Griffs' 21-0 victory over Saint Peter's in the second game of Wednesday's twin bill.
Dick factored in two of Canisius' 10 extra-base hits (double and triple). As a team, the Griffs had five doubles, three triples and two home runs.
The five runs scored is the second time a Canisius player has accomplished the feat this year. Jake Burlingame had five runs in a 20-2 win at Niagara on April 14. Dick also became the fifth player in program history to score five times in a game, joining Burlingame, Jose Torralba, Paul Panik (twice) and Alec Cabello.
Mike Steffan went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and a career-high five RBI, three of which came on a bases-clearing triple in the fifth. Burlingame (3-for-3) and Vinny Chiarenza (2-for-4) each drove in three runs.
Canisius scored six-plus runs in three innings, highlighted by a seven-run third inning.
Senior Jeff DeStefano started for the Griffs, allowing a pair of hits in three scoreless innings while fanning three.
Freshman Levi Abbott earned his second victory of the season, as he struck out four batters in two innings of relief, tying his season high for strikeouts.
Graduate student Jarod Burmaster struck out three batters in his two innings out of the bullpen.
Head Coach Matt Mazurek's Postgame Comments
"Overall, in game one, we came out swinging the bats and took advantage of some hitters counts and a good approach to create offense."
"In game two, we were strong on the mound, working the zone with all pitches to help the defense make plays. Our offense again put themselves in a strong position to find success and a lot of guys did a great job of capitalizing on their opportunities."
GAME NOTES
• Barberio's nine strikeouts in the opening game established a new career high for the senior, eclipsing his four-strikeout outing against Iona early this year (March 27).
• Kush and Steffan both hit their first collegiate round-trippers on Wednesday.
• Canisius became the second Division I program this season to have at least three 20-run games, joining Wright State (6).
• Canisius also had seven doubles in the opener, marking the first time the team had at least seven doubles since logging eight against Old Dominion on Feb. 15, 2015.
• DeStefano's start was his first since March 16, 2019 at Indiana.
• Burlingame and Chiarenza reached base in both games of the doubleheader, extending their on-base streaks to 19 consecutive contests. The 19-game streak is tied for the longest by a Griff since Conner Morro in 2019.

• Jack Migliore drew a walk in his first collegiate plate appearance in the fourth inning of the nightcap. The sophomore made his collegiate debut as a defensive replacement in the first game.
