Five Things to Know: Women’s Lacrosse Travels to Niagara for Two Matchups

Five Things to Know 
1. Three-Straight Versus Niagara
The Golden Griffins return to play Friday evening in Lewiston to face Niagara at 7 p.m. Canisius is scheduled to play Niagara for three consecutive contests this week, marking the first time in program history the Blue and Gold have clashed with the same opponent for three-straight games. 

2. Series History 

Friday will be the 29th all-time meeting between the two Western New York programs.  Canisius leads the all-time series with the Purple Eagles 17-11. Canisius was riding a 17-game winning streak versus the Purple Eagles prior to Tuesday's defeat in Buffalo. 

3. Marissa's Point Streak
With her four-goal showing on Tuesday, senior Marissa Malvaso extended her point streak to 21 games. The last contest the Syracuse, N.Y., native did not register a point was March 22, 2019, against Manhattan. Malvaso has had a point for the Griffs in 32 of the last 33 contests. Entering the weekend, Malvaso is approaching the 100-point milestone, with 95 career points. 

4. Davis' Stellar Play 

Freshman Riley Davis posted her third-straight multiple goal performance Tuesday night versus Niagara. The Painted Post, N.Y., native has posted multiple point efforts in all six of the Golden Griffins contests this season. Davis leads the Golden Griffins in goals (12) and points (15) in 2021. 

5. Penoyer Finds the Scoring Column  
On Tuesday evening, freshman Avery Penoyer scored her first career goal of her collegiate career in the second half against Niagara. The Manlius, N.Y., product also posted an assist in the contest, giving her the first two points of her Canisius career.
