FIVE THINGS TO KNOW
1. Blue and Gold Finally Back in Action

After being "on pause" for 41 days due to Covid-19 protocols, the Canisius men's basketball team returns to the floor Friday afternoon for the first of two MAAC games at Quinnipiac. The Golden Griffins' 44-day pause ranks as the fifth longest among Division I men's basketball teams this year. Canisius last played Jan. 2, and the team's two games in the month of January are the fewest for the program in the calendar year's first month since the 1933-34 campaign.

2. D, D, Defense
In the Griffs' back-to-back wins over Saint Peter's on Jan. 1 and Jan. 2, Canisius was able to hold the Peacocks to 60-or fewer points in back-to-back games, the first time the team has done that since the 2014-15 campaign.

3. Bring on the Bench
Canisius enters Friday's game averaging 36.0 points per game off the bench. That leads the MAAC and ranks third nationally. Through six games, the Griffs' bench has scored 20-plus points in every contest, and in three games, the Blue and Gold's reserves have contributed 40-or more points.

4. Sharing is Caring
According to kenpom.com, the Griffs start Friday's contest ranked 10th in the nation in assists-to-made field goal ratio, with 63.2 percent of Canisius' buckets this year coming off an assist. As a team, Canisius is averaging 14.3 assists per game this year, which ranks third-best in the MAAC.

5. The Passing Dutchman
Sophomore Jacco Fritz leads the Griffs and ranks ninth in the MAAC in assists per game with his 3.2 assists per contest this year. Listed at 6-foot-10, Fritz is the tallest player among the MAAC's top-10 assists leaders, and he's the only player in that group not listed as a guard.
