Men’s Basketball Announces a Pair of Exhibition Games

The Canisius men's basketball team will play two exhibition games before the 2026-27 season, starting Oct. 17, when the Golden Griffins travel to play at Le Moyne in Syracuse, N.Y., head coach Jim Christian announced today.

The Griffs' game at Le Moyne is set to tip off at 1 p.m. Canisius will also play a road exhibition game at Robert Morris on Oct. 27, in Moon Township. Pa. That game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.

In January 2025, the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Oversight Committee approved a proposal to allow teams to play up to two preseason exhibition games against any four-year schools, including other Division I opponents. Previously, Division I schools were only permitted to play exhibition games against other Division I schools after they were approved through an NCAA waiver process, and the proceeds from those games were donated directly to a charity. This will be the first time Canisius has played an exhibition game against a Division I school since the Griffs played at Colgate before the start of the 2017-18 campaign.

The Griffs will officially open the 2026-27 season on Nov. 2, when the Blue and Gold travel to play at Penn State. That game will tip off at 7:30 p.m., and will be broadcast live on Big Ten Network Plus. Canisius' 2026-27 home opener is scheduled for Nov. 7, when the team hosts St. Bonaventure at the Koessler Athletic Center.
