FIVE THINGS TO KNOW

1. Opening Tip
Canisius continues its three-game homestand Tuesday as it hosts Detroit Mercy in a 7 p.m. contest at the Koessler Athletic Center.

2. Nusseibeh's First Victory
Junior guard Shaunae Brown's runner with 13 seconds left solidified the first head coaching victory for Sahar Nusseibeh as Canisius defeated Colgate, 61-58, Saturday at the Koessler Athletic Center.

Brown led the Griffs in scoring for a second consecutive game, netting 13 points to go along with five rebounds and four assists. Senior forward Kayla Jackson scored 11 points and hauled in seven rebounds, while sophomore guard Dani Haskell chipped in with 10 points.

Freshman Rhay Porter had a team-high 10 rebounds in the victory, becoming the first freshman to log a 10-plus-rebound game since Danielle Sanderlin against Marist on Feb. 11, 2018.

3. Series History
Canisius and Detroit Mercy will be facing each other for a seventh time Tuesday. The last time the two schools met was during the 2013-14 season, when the Griffs came away with a 77-67 victory on Nov. 8, 2013. Detroit Mercy and Canisius have split the previous six contests, with the Griffs posting a 2-1 home mark against the Titans.

4. Crashing the Boards
With 43 rebounds in Saturday's home-opening victory over Colgate, Canisius has now posted 40-plus rebounds in three consecutive contests. With at least 40 rebounds Tuesday, it would mark the first time the Griffs would have 40-plus rebounds in four straight games since a four-game streak during the 2006-07 season (Nov. 14 - Nov. 26, 2006).

5. Looking at the Horizon
Tuesday's contest marks the first of three non-conference games against a Horizon League opponent this season. It is also the first of two consecutive games against a full-time member of the conference. The Griffs will also host Robert Morris, who joined the league in July 2020, on Saturday. Later in the season, on Dec. 8, the Griffs will entertain Youngstown State.

It is the first time the Griffs will play at least three teams from the same conference that is not the MAAC since the 2018-19 season. Canisius, that year, played four Mid-American Conference (MAC) schools — hosting Miami (Ohio), Buffalo and Bowling Green and traveling to Akron.
