FIVE THINGS TO KNOW

1. Welcome Home, Griffs!
Canisius welcomes Colgate for the team's home opener at the Koessler Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon. It marks the Griffs' first home game in nearly a full calendar year (349 days), since opening the 2020-21 season against crosstown rival Buffalo on Dec. 6, 2020.

It is also the first game in front of fans at the Koessler Athletic Center in 623 days since the 2019-20 regular season finale on March 7, 2020 against Quinnipiac.

2. O Canada
Canisius' lone Canadian players shined in Wednesday's 67-59 loss at St. Bonaventure.

Junior Shaunae Brown led all Griffs scorers with her 16-point performance. Brown scored 14 of her 16 points in the second half, highlighted by a 10-point third quarter. Senior Erika Joseph also recorded a career-high 14 points, netting nine points in the second half.

3. Series History
Saturday will be the 39th meeting between the two Empire State foes. Canisius leads the all-time series, 23-15, highlighted by a 16-4 mark on home court against the Raiders.

Canisius has won six of the last 10 in the series, but Colgate has been victorious in each of the last three games.

4. Crashing the Boards
Senior forward Kayla Jackson has been a strong presence for Canisius in rebounding early on this season.

After posting consecutive double-digit rebounding totals, Jackson is averaging 8.7 rebounds per contest, which ranks eighth in the MAAC. Jackson's two games with 10-plus boards is tied with Niagara's Aaliyah Parker and Manhattan's Courtney Warley for the second-most such games in the MAAC. Marist's Zaria Shazer, the reigning MAAC Player of the Week, paces the conference after posting a trio of double-doubles last week.

With 10-plus rebounds Saturday, Jackson would be the first Canisius player with three consecutive double-digit rebounding games since Marie Warner logged five straight 10-plus rebound games during the 2008-09 season.

5. Battle Between First-Season Head Coaches
Canisius and Colgate are facing each other this afternoon with head coaches in their first year at the helm of their respective programs. Canisius' Sahar Nusseibeh is in his first year as a collegiate head coach, while Colgate's Ganiyat Adeduntan is in her first year with the Raiders. For Adeduntan, it is her third season as a collegiate head coach after spending the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons leading Wheelock, a Division III school located in Boston.
