Varsity Four Earns First-Place Finish at Yinzer Cup

Canisius' Varsity Four "A" shell earned a first-place finish in Saturday's Yinzer Cup in Pittsburgh, Pa., which featured four other teams, including the host, Robert Morris.

EVENT RECAP
The quintet consisting of coxswain Morgan Marsallo and rowers Allyson Matrassi, Bridget Reilly, Destiny Severn and Isabella Bruno crossed the finish line first amongst the 13 entrants with a time of 9:38.8. Robert Morris's "B" shell finished second with a time of 9:49.0.

Canisius' other varsity four placed 10th, finishing with a time of 10:02.8.

In the varsity eight, Canisius' "A" team finished fourth with a time of 8:58.1. West Virginia's "B" squad claimed victory amongst the 10 finishers with a time of 8:45.8.

The Griffs' varsity eight "B" squad finished ninth, concluding the race in 10:02.9.

Head Coach Kerri Brace's Comments
"I was happy we were able to get out and race against some really great crews today. The first varsity four kicked off the day with a solid piece and all boats executed their race plans well. We look forward to building off that as we head into our final race of the fall season in Philadelphia next weekend."

EVENT NOTES
• Saturday marked the second time Canisius has participated in the Yinzer Cup. With the varsity four victory, the Griffs have now claimed a first-place win in both appearances at the Robert Morris-hosted event.
• Canisius' Varsity Four "A" shell has won back-to-back events, having won last weekend's Head of the Niagara event.

UP NEXT
Canisius closes its fall schedule with an appearance at the Head of the Schuylkill in Philadelphia next Saturday (Oct. 30).
