FIVE THINGS TO KNOW
1. The Start to the 2020-21 Season is Here...

The Canisius men's basketball returns to action Friday night for the first time this season when the Golden Griffins play host to Marist at the Koessler Athletic Center. The same two teams will play again on Saturday at the Koessler Athletic Center, with that game also set for a 7 p.m., start time. Both games this weekend will be broadcast live on ESPN3.

2. It's Been a While...
Friday's game for Canisius is the Griffs' first since March 10 - a span of 276 days. This year marks the first time the Blue and Gold have opened the season in the month of December since 1973-74, and the Dec. 11 start date is the latest for the program since the 1940-41 campaign.

3. Lots to Open...
Friday's game against Marist will not only be Canisius' season opener and home opener, but it is also the Blue and Gold's MAAC opener as well. The Griffs are 16-15 all-time in the first MAAC game of the season after falling to Siena 73-72 to start league play in 2019-20. That loss to the Saints ended the Griffs' seven-year run of starting conference play with a victory - the longest such streak in program history.

4. Lots of Points Return...
Canisius returns 72.6 percent of its scoring offense from a season ago, led by senior Majesty Brandon, who was good for 13.9 points per game a season ago. Brandon, who was named Preseason All-MAAC, is one of five returning players in the MAAC who averaged 13.0 points per game or better in 2019-20.

5. No Overtimes Needed in 2019-20...
Canisius played the entire 32 game schedule in 2019-20 without an overtime game - the first time the Blue and Gold didn't play an overtime contest since the 2010-11 campaign. The Griffs' last overtime contest came March 8, 2019 - a 69-65 win by Canisius over Manhattan in the 2019 MAAC Men's Basketball Championship quarterfinal round.
