The Canisius men's soccer team plays a pair of non-conference contests this weekend against Binghamton and Northern Kentucky.
 
The Golden Griffins start the weekend Friday with a 7 p.m. contest versus the Bearcats at the Bearcats Sports Complex in Vestal, N.Y., before returning home to host Northern Kentucky Sunday in a 1 p.m. matinee.
 
Sunday's matchup against the Norse serves as the first half of a Canisius soccer doubleheader that also features the women's team taking on Valparaiso at 4 p.m.
 
Scouting Canisius
• Canisius opened the 2019 season with a 4-1 setback to visiting Bucknell Sept. 1 at the Demske Sports Complex.
• Senior Troy Brady scored the lone goal for the Griffs, converting a penalty-kick opportunity in the 71st minute of the contest. The goal was Brady's 17th career marker and his second career penalty-kick tally.
• Seven players – Matt SpanglerRyan DagelmanKillian PanisJulius SchonerNoah Hodson, Federico Mereto and Tyler Lewandowski – all made their first career starts for Canisius.
• Junior keeper Tom Crosbie made his second career start in goal for the Griffs, making five saves in the losing effort.
 
Scouting Binghamton
• The Bearcats enter Friday's matchup with the Griffs the owners of a 1-1-0 record on the young season, posting a 2-1 overtime victory over Drexel in its home opener Aug. 30 before suffering a 3-1 setback at Syracuse on Labor Day.
• Noah Luescher has paced the Binghamton attack in the early going, tallying both goals in the Bearcats' victory over the Dragons.
• Parker McKnight has the other Binghamton goal to his credit, scoring the opening marker midway through the first half against the Orange.
• Mats Roords has started both games in goal for head coach Paul Marco's squad, posting a 1.97 goals against average and a .750 save percentage in 183 minutes of work thus far in 2019. 
 
Canisius-Binghamton Series Notes
• Friday's contest serves as the fourth meeting between the two Empire State foes.
• The Bearcats have won the previous three matchups, including a 5-1 triumph over the Griffs in their most recent contest during the 2017 season at the Demske Sports Complex.
 
Scouting Northern Kentucky
• Northern Kentucky opens a Western New York road swing Friday at Niagara with a 0-1-1 ledger for 2019 as it began the season with a 3-0 setback at Grand Canyon on Aug. 30 and a 1-1 tie versus Marshall at home on Labor Day.
• Ryan Godding has accounted for the lone Norse goal this season while Alex Greive and Connor Probert have the team's two assists.
• Baj Maan has started both games of the season in goal for NKU, posting a 1.80 goals against average and a .692 save percentage in 200 minutes of action.
 
Canisius-Northern Kentucky Series Notes
• Sunday's contest will be the second matchup between Canisius and Northern Kentucky.
• The Norse took the inaugural meeting between the two schools, posting a 3-2 triumph over the Griffs last August at the NKU Soccer Stadium in Highland Heights, Ky.

• Canisius continues non-conference play Friday, Sept. 13 with a trip out west to face Utah Valley. Kickoff between the Griffs and Wolverines is set for 9 p.m. EST at Clyde Field in Orem, Utah.
