Hockey Bolsters Roster with Addition of Five Newcomers

Canisius head coach Trevor Large announced the addition of five players to the Golden Griffins' hockey roster on Thursday.
 
Newcomers Jacob Barczewski (Fallon, Mo./Tri-City Storm (USHL)), Lincoln Erne (Blaine, Minn./Minot Minotauros (NAHL)), David Melaragni (Philadelphia, Pa./Cowichan Valley Capitals (BCHL)) and Nick Parody (Harrisburg, Pa./Islanders Hockey Club (NCDC)) will join Golden Griffins as freshmen for the 2019-20 season.
 
Transfer Will Scherer (St. Charles, Mo./Brown (ECAC)) is eligible to play immediately. He has one season of eligibility remaining after receiving his undergraduate degree from Brown this past May.
 
The quintet joins Simon Gravel (Boucherville, Quebec/Brooks Bandits (AJHL)), Hudson Lambert (Richmond Hill, Ontario/Brampton Admirals (OJHL)), Keaton Mastrodonato (Power River, British Columbia/Alberni Valley Bulldogs (BCHL)), Ryan Miotto (Thorold, Ontario/Alberni Valley Bulldogs (BCHL)), MacGregor Sinclair (Irma, Alberta/Battlefords North Stars (SJHL)) and John Stampohar (Grand Rapids, Minn./Fairbanks Ice Dogs (NAHL)), who made their commitment to the program back in the fall.
 
"We are extremely excited about the skill level and depth of this incoming class," Large said. "Each one of these student-athletes will be a great addition to the Canisius community.  There is an opportunity for this class to make an immediate impact on our team."
 
Barczewski played two seasons with Tri-City, posting a 2.65 goals against average and a .904 save percentage in 59 appearances. He took part in 30 games for the Storm in 2018-19, posting a 20-8-2 record, a 2.56 goals against average and a .904 save percentage in 1736 minutes played.
 
In his first season with the Storm, Barczewski appeared in 29 contests, turning in a 2.74 goals against average and a .904 save percentage in 1687 minutes of action. He played 2016-17 season with Janesville Jets, posting a 2.74 goals against average and a .929 save percentage in 35 appearances.
Erne played two seasons with the Minot Minotauros, recording nine goals and 42 assists in 114 regular-season games played, while serving as an assistant captain for the 2018-19 campaign.
 
Erne played three seasons with Blaine High School, tallying 56 points on 13 goals and 43 assists in 78 games played. He served as team captain of the Bengals for the 2016-17 season.
 

Melaragni spent 2018-19 season with Cowichan Valley Capitals, leading team and ranking third among BCHL defenseman in scoring with 50 points (12g, 38a). He added five goals and two assists in 12 postseason contests with the Capitals, helping guide the squad to Interior Division semifinal round.
 
Prior to his time with Cowichan Valley, Melaragni played one season with the Nanaimo Clippers, posting 32 points on eight goals and 24 assists in 58 regular-season contests. He also played parts of three seasons with the Philadelphia Revolution of the EHL, posting 15 goals and 44 assists in 86 games played.
 

Parody spent two seasons with the Islanders Hockey Club, recording 12 goals and 24 assists in 80 regular-season games played. He helped guide Islanders to 2017-18 NCDC Championship, adding three goals in 11 playoff contests.
 
Before his time with the Islanders, Parody played two seasons at the Canterbury School, tallying 20 points on six goals and 14 assists in 57 appearances.
 

Scherer makes his way to Canisius after three seasons at Brown (2015-19), where he recorded two assists in 39 career games played.  He skated in 22 games with the Bears during 2018-19 campaign, recording an assist in 3-2 win at Union (1/26/19)
 
The two-time ECAC All-Academic Team selection spent the 2014-15 season playing for the Topeka RoadRunners of the North American Hockey League, recording 17 points in 57 games tallying six goals to go along with 11 assists.
