Coates '11 to Represent Canada at World Indoor Lacrosse Championship

Former Canisius standout Dan Coates '11 has been named to the Canadian Men's Indoor Lacrosse Team for the upcoming World Indoor Lacrosse Championship (WILC), the Canadian Lacrosse Association (CLA) and the Canadian Men's Indoor National Team coaching staff recently announced.

Coates is part of a 23-man roster that will look to help Canada maintain its undefeated record in World Indoor Lacrosse Championship play, as the Red and White have posted an unblemished 23-0 record in its four WILC appearances, including the most recent championship in 2015 at the Onondaga Nation near Syracuse. Coates and Canisius Sports Hall of Fame member Matt Vinc were members of the 2015 championship squad, with Vinc garnering All-World Team honors for his play during the event.

The 2019 World Indoor Lacrosse Championship is scheduled to be held Sept. 19-28 in Langley, British Columbia.

No stranger to the indoor game, Coates recently completed his eighth season with the National Lacrosse League's Colorado Mammoth. Serving as team captain of the squad for the past four seasons, Coates has appeared in 116 games with Colorado, amassing 70 points (13g, 57a), 460 loose balls and 134 caused turnovers in that timeframe.

Coates has also honed his box lacrosse skills during the summer months, having played with the Six Nation Chiefs of the Ontario Lacrosse Association and Major Series Lacrosse. He has helped guide the Chiefs to Mann Cup titles in 2013, 2014 and 2016.
