Five Things to Know - Women's Lacrosse Opens MAAC Play at Manhattan Friday

1.    Against the Jaspers
• In a series that dates back to the 1998 inaugural season, Canisius is 12-9 versus conference foe Manhattan, including a 6-4 mark at Gaelic Park. After the Jaspers took the first eight games of the series, the Golden Griffins won its first game against Manhattan on April 2, 2006 in Riverdale, N.Y. Since 2008, the Blue and Gold have won 11 straight against the Jaspers.
 
2.    Roemer Scores Five at Bryant
• Reigning MAAC Offensive Player of the Year, senior Jourdan Roemer tallied five goals Wednesday afternoon against Bryant. It was the fifth time this season that the attacker recorded multiple goals this season. During her career, Roemer has scored five goals on six different occasions.
 
3.    Back-to-Back Double-Digit Saves
• Freshman goalie Shannon Maroney has recorded 26 saves over the last two games. Against Marquette, Maroney stopped 14 shots, followed by a 12-save outing against Bryant on Wednesday. For the season, Maroney has stopped 38 shots and has a save percentage of .358, which ranks 10th in the MAAC.
 
4.    On Pace for a Big Year
• Sophomore Marissa Malvaso recorded her first hat trick of the season on Wednesday, as well as assisting on three Canisius goals. The midfielder already has 18 points (10 goals, 8 assists) this season after just recording 17 (13 goals, 4 assists) during her entire freshman campaign. Malvaso enters Friday as the Griffs leader in assists.
 
5.    Goals from Unlikely Sources
• Freshman Megan Hoffman, junior Emma Mryglod and sophomore Miranda Malvaso each found the back of the net in the Griffs game against Bryant. For Hoffman, the goal was the first of her career, while Mryglod's goal was her first since her freshman campaign.
