Jalanni White Named to MAAC All-Championship Team

Canisius sophomore forward Jalanni White was named to the 2019 MAAC Men's Basketball All-Championship Team, the conference office announced Monday night at the conclusion of the league's postseason tournament at the Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y.

White is ninth player in program history to earn All-Championship Team accolades and he is the first Golden Griffin frontcourt player to earn the honor since Ryan Collins and Micheal Meeks were recognized after the Blue and Gold won the MAAC Championship in 1996.

The New Haven, Conn., native averaged 13.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game as Canisius advanced to the semifinal round of the MAAC Men's Basketball Championship for the ninth time in school history and for the first time since 2014. In the team's quarterfinal overtime win over Manhattan on Friday, White matched a career-high with 16 points after he went a perfect 7-for-7 from the floor, making him just the third player in MAAC Basketball Championship history to make seven-or-more field goals in a game without a miss. In the team's semifinal loss to Monmouth on Sunday, he posted 11 points and six boards.

White was joined on the MAAC All-Championship Team by Siena's Jalen Pickett, Deion Hammond and Diago Quinn from Monmouth and E.J. Crawford and Tajuan Agee from Iona. Iona's Rickey McGill was named the 2019 MAAC Championship MVP after helping lead the Gaels to their fourth-straight league championship crown.

Canisius ended its run at the MAAC Championship with a 73-59 loss to Monmouth in the semifinal round on Sunday night. The Griffs went 15-17 overall and 11-7 in MAAC play, with seven of those conference victories coming on the road. The team earned the No. 2 seed in the 2019 MAAC Basketball Championship, the second-straight year and the fifth time in program history where the Griffs entered the conference's postseason event as the second seed.
