Five Things to Know - Women's Basketball Celebrates Senior Day versus Monmouth

1. Senior Day
• Sunday afternoon the Canisius women's basketball program will honor its four seniors, Zhane Irby, Amanda Schiefen, Maria Welch and Sara Hinriksdottir, for all they have done during their four years on Main Street. The ceremony starts at 1:40 p.m., 20-minutes prior to the opening tip against Monmouth, where the Griffs look to split the season series with the Hawks.
 

2. One of the Canisius Greats
• Among the four seniors is Keflavik, Iceland, product Sara Hinriksdottir. A two-time All-MAAC selection, Hinriksdottir currently sits seventh all-time in points (1,375) and field goals made (523), 10th in blocks (66), 11th in total rebounds (624) and 14th in scoring average (624).
 

3. Previously Against Monmouth
• Junior D'Jhai Patterson-Ricks led the way for the Blue and Gold, scoring 16 points on 7-for-12 shooting, followed by junior Tiana Pugh who scored 11 points while grabbing five boards in the Griffs late January loss to Monmouth. Sophomore Danielle Sanderlin added nine points and 11 rebounds in the loss. As a team, Canisius shot 44.2 percent from the field and 50.0 percent from the perimeter as they fell to the Hawks by a final score of 67-61.
 

4. Make it a Double-Double
• Hinriksdottir recorded her seventh double-double of the 2018-19 season on Friday night versus Siena with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Four of the forwards seven double-doubles have come against MAAC foes, including a 20-and-10 night at Fairfield on Feb. 7. Sanderlin is second on the squad with two double-double outings this season.
 

5. In the Fourth Quarter
• Canisius is outscoring MAAC foes in the final frame of games this season, 17.9 to 16.1 points per final 10 minutes. In the fourth, the Blue and Gold are shooting 46.3 percent from the floor and 34.5 percent from 3-point range. The Griffs also out-rebound their opponents in the final 10 minutes of games, 9.9 to 8.7.
