Edmondson Named Nominee for Hockey Humanitarian Award

Canisius senior defenseman Ian Edmondson has been selected as one of 17 nominees for the 2019 Hockey Humanitarian Award, HHA Foundation officials announced on Thursday.  
 
The award is presented annually to college hockey's finest citizen — a student-athlete who makes significant contributions not only to his or her team, but also to the community-at large
through leadership in volunteerism.
 
Edmondson is part of a group of nominees that includes 15 seniors and two juniors, along with 13 male and four female candidates. The candidate list features nine forwards, six defenseman and two goaltenders.
 
A native of Toronto, Edmondson has appeared in 104 games for the Golden Griffins during his four-year career, amassing four goals and 25 assists for 29 points. During his senior season, Edmondson has tallied two goals and four assists in 16 games played while also ranking fifth on the squad with 16 blocked shots.
 
Off the ice, the Senior CLASS Award candidate is an active member of both the Canisius and greater Buffalo communities. Edmondson serves as the Community Service Officer on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) at Canisius, helping to organize and seek out community service opportunities for student-athletes to participate in. He also helps run the "Sandwich Ministry," a weekly program held in conjunction with the College's campus ministry department that provides meals to less-fortunate members of the Buffalo community.
 
Finalists for the 2019 Hockey Humanitarian Award will be announced in February. The 2019 recipient will be honored in a ceremony on Friday, April 12th as part of the NCAA Men's Frozen Four weekend in Buffalo, N.Y.
