Binghamton Hosts Women's Lacrosse in Monday Afternoon Showdown

The Canisius women's lacrosse team continues its season on Monday, as it heads out on a quick roadtrip to Binghamton to take on the Bearcats. The game is set for 4 p.m, as head coach Allison Daley returns to the program that she spent three years as assistant coach.
 
SCOUTING THE GRIFFS
• The Golden Griffins come into the game with an 0-3 mark having dropped contests at Northwestern (18-7), at Michigan (14-3), and most recently in an overtime heartbreaker to Oregon, (12-11).
• The team is led offensively by the MAAC Preseason Player of the Year Jourdan Roemer, and Jen Reininger.
• Roemer has tallied five goals goals and five assists through the trio of games, for 10 points, while Reininger has seven points, all coming by way of goals.
• Lauren Smolensky is also a key cog to the Griffs' offense, as she has tallied four points (two goals and two assists).
• Reinger has proved to be a do-it-all type of player, as she is not only an offensive leader but also paces the team in ground balls with 15, and draw controls with 11.
• Reininger's four caused turnovers also leads the team
• Rebecca VanLaeken has held up strong in the next despite an onslaught by opposing offenses, as she is averaging 15.3 saves per game, and has a 14.70 goals against average to go along with a .517 save percentage.
 
SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
• Binghamton hosts its second home game of the season, coming into the game with a 3-2 record.
•  The Bearcats boast three players who have tallied double-figure points, as Jacqueline Kennedy (12 points), Rebeca Golderman (11 points) and Brianne Arthur (10 points) have all accomplished the feat.
• Kennedy paces the team in goals with 11, while five Bearcats have posted two.
• In net the Bearcats have split time between Emma Jehle and Taylor Passuello.
• Jehle has gotten the start in every game but Passuello has started the second half of each game.
• Passuello's goals against average mark of 9.20 and her .500 save percentage lead the team.
 
SERIES HISTORY

• The series between the Griffs and Bearcats began on March 16, 2002, as the Blue and Gold defeated Binghamton 26-1.
• Canisius leads the all-time series, 12-2.
• The Griffs have won the last five games with its last loss against Binghmaton coming on March 9, 2012, when the Bearcats edged the Griffs 11-9.
• Canisius remains a perfect 7-0 record at home, and maintains a 5-2 record ont he road against the Bearcats. 
 
AND THE BEAT GOES ON
• So far two of the Canisius stalwarts on offense, Jourdan Roemer and Jen Reininger, have produced in a three games the team has played in.
• When you take a closer look however the two players have shown a uncanny consistency to their offensive games.
• Both players are on point streaks that span over 20 games.
• Reininger, who joined the Blue and Gold last season, hasn't had a game during her 23-game career where she hasn't tallied at least one point.
• Reininger has registered 62 points through the 23 games, averaging 2.6 points per contest.
• She currently leads the team in goal scoring with seven.
• Reininger is also ranked second in the country in ground balls per game with a mark of 5.00 per contest.
• Roemer also has an impressive point streak going, as she has tallied 32 games with at least one point, dating back to March 25, 2016.
• In that time Roemer has amassed 69 goals, 53 assists for 122 points, averaging 3.8 points per contest.
 
VANLAEKEN AMONG THE NATION'S BEST
• Senior goaltender Rebecca VanLaeken has had strong start to the season despite the Griffs' 0-3 start.
• The netminder is ranked 11th in the nation when it comes to overall saves, having stopped 46 shots in 2018.
• She's also ranked first in the country in saves per game, having tallied 15.33.
• The former MAAC Defensive Player of the Year, didn't wait long to show what she can do this season, tying a program-best 20 saves against Northwestern.
• The record was set by now head coach, Allison Daley, as she posted 20 against Siena in an 11-7 victory on April 16, 2010.
