LAST TIME OUT
• Marissa Malvaso's goal with 4:47 left in triple overtime, helped lift the Canisius women's lacrosse program to a 10-9 victory over Yale at the Demske Sports Complex, Sunday.Â
* The marker was the third of the game for the freshman attacker, and helped the Golden Griffins to improve to 2-4 on the season, while handing Yale its first loss of the 2018 campaign, as the Bulldogs dropped to 4-1.
• Canisius held a 9-5 advantage midway through the frame, however a late Bulldog run of four unanswered goals, capped by Barrett Carlson's tally, with 2:29 remaining in the game, forced extra time.
• The two teams went scoreless for a total 15:42, spanning the end of regulation, and nearly two and a quarter overtime periods, before a decisive marker was scored.
• Jourdan Roemer was once again the team's points leader at the end of the game, tallying three goals and two assists. Malvaso also tallied a hat trick with three goals and one assist for four points.
• Jen Reininger managed to fire 12 shots on cage but came away with one goal and one assist, while Allie Stewart and Bryar Cummings recorded two points and one point respectively.
• Yale's scoring was spread around as three player recorded two points apiece. Emily Granger, Olivia Markert and Katie Smith all had a pair of points, with Granger leading the Bulldogs in goals with two.
 • The nation's leader in draw controls, Izzy Nixon, had another stellar performance, recording 12 of the teams 19 draw controls herself.
SCOUTING CANISIUS
• The Golden Griffins (2-4) continue its homestand on Thursday, as the team welcomes Bryant (2-2) to the Demske Sports Complex. Game time is set for 4 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN3.
• The Blue and Gold had the strongest week so far in 2018, going 2-1, defeating Binghamton (13-12) and Yale (10-9 , 3OT) and dropping a contest to Delaware (16-9).
• The Griffs have been led offensively by Jourdan Roemer, who comes into the contest with 25 points (14 goals and 11 assists).Â
• Not far behind is the team's leading goal scorer, Jen Reininger, who has 19 points with 16 goals and three assists.Â
• The Blue and Gold have also received goal scoring from Allie Stewart (seven goals), Lauren Smolenksy (four goals and three assists) and Bryar Cummings (five goals, one assist).
• Marissa Malvaso and Miranda Malvaso have continued to get stronger with each game, as the freshmen have been strong complimentary pieces in their first year.
• Marissa Malvaso has tallied four goals and two assists, while Miranda Malvaso has tallied three goals this season.Â
• Reininger, aside from goal scoring, has been all over the stat sheet, leading the team in ground balls with 27, draw controls with 27 and caused turnovers with 10.
• Rebecca VanLaeken has been one of the nation's best goaltenders, leading division I in saves per game with 13.00. She has a 2-4 record this season with a 13.02 goals against average and a .494 save percentage.Â
SCOUTING BRYANT
• The Bulldogs come into the contest with a 2-2 overall record, and having yet played an NEC game.
• Bryant opened the season with a pair of wins over Albany (16-6) and Hartford (17-2) but has lost its previous two games, to Brown (15-14) and Harvard (19-18).Â
• Caitlin Breglia leads the team in points, with 23 (13 goals and 10 assists), while Jess DeMeo is not far behind with 22 (19 goals and three assists).
• The Bulldogs have two players that have tallied double-figure draw controls, with Meredith James leading the team with 18, while Lauren Britton has 15.
• Madison McNally paces Byrant in caused turnovers with five.
• Samantha Santeramo has seen the most action in goal, having started all four games and posting a 2-2 record to go along with a 11.43 goals against verge and a .467 save percentage.Â
SERIES HISTORY VS. BRYANT
• This is the first ever meeting between the Griffs and the Bulldogs.Â
• Canisius is 12-3 all-time against current NEC members, with its most wins coming against Robert Morris (10-0). The Griffs are also 1-1 against Central Conn., 1-0 against LIU Brooklyn and 0-2 vs. Sacred Heart
HISTORIC WIN OVER YALE
• The Griffs tallied a much needed win over Yale on Sunday, but it was important for more than just adding another "W" to the win column.
• There were several milestones the Griffs achieved in the win that ordinarily would go unnoticed.
• Sunday's contest was the longest contest in program history, as Canisius women's lacrosse had never played in a game that went to triple overtime.Â
• It was also the program's first win over an Ivy League opponent.Â
• Canisius was 0-8 in previous meetings with the Ancient Eight, going 0-3 vs. Cornell, 0-2 against Columbia, 0-2 vs. Princeton and 0-1 against Yale.Â
