Women’s Lacrosse Adds Formato and Michalak to Coaching Staff

iThe Canisius women's lacrosse program added Caitlin Formato and Caroline Michalak to its coaching staff, head coach Allison Daley announced on Tuesday. Formato will take over as assistant coach while Michalak will serve as the team's director of operations.

Formato, a Lancaster, N.Y. native, returns home after serving as women's lacrosse head coach at Edinboro University for the past two seasons. She guided the Scots to a school-record-tying seven wins in her first season and its first ever win over a nationally-ranked opponent after defeating 18th-ranked Seton Hill a 15-13 on March 23, 2016.

A pair of Fighting Scots earned All-PSAC honors under her tutelage, which marked the first time Edinboro had more than one honoree. Cydney Hrycko and Paige Skinner were both awarded second team All-PSAC honors, the first time an Edinboro player earned more than a spot on the third team.

Formato previously worked at St. Bonaventure, as an assistant coach during the 2015 season, and prior to that was head coach for the Malvern St. James School in Worcestershire, England. There she oversaw four different teams with varying age groups.

Formato also was the director of the Lacrosse United summer camp in Lancaster in 2012 and 2013, as well as coach of the Lady Monsters travel team.

An accomplished athlete at George Mason, Formato was a three-year starter and the team captain her junior and senior seasons. Over her career, she scored 65 goals with 19 assists for 84 points while appearing in 67 career matches, with 51 starts. A midfielder, she finished as the third-leading scorer with 18 goals and five assists for 23 points as a senior in 2013. She added 25 draw controls, 16 ground balls, and 11 caused turnovers while playing in 15 matches, with 14 starts.

Formato earned her bachelor's degree in Management from George Mason in 2013, with a minor in Tourism.

Also joining the staff is Michalak who will serve as the teams director of operations. Most recently Michalak helped organize championship village for the World Juniors in Buffalo, N.Y., as well as worked with the Buffalo Bills in customer service.

Beginning in August, Michalak was an Assistant Intramural Sport Manager at Buffalo State, responsible for planning and scheduling the intramural schedule each semester.

Fitness is also a career-aspiration for the new director of operations, working as a personal trainer for LP Ciminelli, Orange Theory and World's Gym. She graduated Canisius with a bachelors degree in communications and media arts in 2013 and is currently pursuing a masters degree in sports administration.
