BUFFALO – The Canisius men's soccer team continues non-conference play this weekend with a pair of contests against St. Bonaventure and Central Connecticut State.

The Griffs travel to Olean to face the Bonnies in a Little Three matchup Friday at 7 p.m. before returning home to square off against the Blue Devils at 1 p.m. in the first half of a men's and women's doubleheader at the Demske Sports Complex.

SCOUTING CANISIUS
  • Canisius (2-1-0) looks to continue their winning ways after sweeping Robert Morris and the Virginia Military Institute in a pair of home contests last week.
  • Sophomore Troy Brady, the reigning MAAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, scored the game-winning goal in both contests and added an additional goal and an assist to finish with seven points.
  • Junior Melvin Blair is second on the team in scoring with five points (2g, 1a) while senior Eric Strauchen paces the squad with three assists.
  • In goal, senior Bryce Tramuta started both games last week, posting his first career shutout in the Griffs' 5-0 blanking of the Keydets, recording two saves.

SCOUTING ST. BONAVENTURE
  • St. Bonaventure (2-1-1) makes its home debut on Friday after opening the 2017 season with four straight road contests.
  • Paul Afful leads the Bonnies in goals (3), assists (2) and points (8) in the early going. Afful was named the Atlantic 10 Co-Offensive Player of the Week on Aug. 28 after helping SBU to a pair of overtime victories at Bucknell and Robert Morris to open the season.
  • Kosi Nwafornso and Kieran Toland are tied for second on the team with three points on a goal and an assist each.
  • Luke Iacobellis has started all four games for the Bonnies this season. He has posted a 1.09 goals against average and a .800 save percentage in 411 minutes of action.

CANISIUS – ST. BONAVENTURE SERIES HISTORY
  • Friday's contest serves as the 49th meeting between the Griffs and the Bonnies, making St. Bonaventure the second-most frequented opponent on the Griffs' schedule (Canisius has played Niagara 57 times).
  • St. Bonaventure holds a 25-16-7 all-time advantage against the Griffs but Canisius is a perfect 6-0-0 against the Bonnies since Dermot McGrane was hired as coach prior to the 2011 season.
  • Canisius has won each of its last three contests against St. Bonaventure in Olean, including a 3-0 triumph in their most recent visit in 2015. The Griffs were a combined 0-14-2 in their previous 16 trips to the Southern Tier.
  • Last season, Canisius posted a 1-0 victory over St. Bonaventure at the Demske Sports Complex. Thomas Teupen scored the game-winning goal in the 6th minute and Marco Trivellato made three saves to record the shutout.

SCOUTING CENTRAL CONNECTICUT STATE
  • Central Connecticut State (2-2-0) continues its five-game road swing with its visit to the Nickel City on Sunday.
  • Louis Beddouri and Sebastian Calderon are tied for the team lead with two goals each while three players have chipped in one goal each this season.
  • Andres Muriel Albino and Ryan Taylor have served as the team's top playmakers, posting two assists each.
  • Nick Velleca and Carson D'Ambrosio have split time in goal for the Blue Devils this season. Velleca boasts a 0.97 goals against average and a .818 save percentage while D'Ambrosio holds a 1.50 GAA and .625 save percentage.

CANISIUS – CENTRAL CONNECTICUT STATE SERIES HISTORY
  • Canisius and Central Connecticut State meet for the fourth time in series history when the two teams do battle Sunday.
  • The Blue Devils hold a 3-1 lead in the series, but Canisius recorded a 2-1 overtime victory in New Britain last September.
  • Juniors Melvin Blair and Alex Grattarola scored for the Griffs, with Grattarola notching the game-winning tally in the third minute of overtime last season.

UP NEXT
  • Canisius returns to action Sept. 16 when it travels to Ithaca to face Ivy League rival Cornell in a 7 p.m. contest at Berman Field.
