Shoniker Promoted to Women's Basketball Associate Head Coach

Canisius women's basketball assistant coach and Rochester, N.Y., native, Megan Shoniker has been promoted to associate head coach, the team announced on Wednesday. Shoniker has been with the team since June of 2014.

"Our program is very excited to name Megan our associate head coach," head coach Terry Zeh said. "She has shown a tremendous ability to be a successful role model for the young women in our program. Megan is one of the hardest workers that I have ever been around in my 27 years at the college level. She is a lifelong learner with a passion to be great and her ability to connect with people on the recruiting trail and on our campus has made her an invaluable member of Canisius Women's Basketball."

Shoniker has helped coach one of the most accurate offenses in the MAAC, as the Griffs have posted no lower than a .400 field goal percentage and posted over 1800 total points twice in the last two seasons.

Not only does Shoniker have a proven track record as a coach, she also had a prolific career as an athlete at Rhode Island. She served as team captain for the Rams for two seasons, scoring 1318 points, made 158 3-pointers, and tallied 301 assists in her collegiate career.

Shoniker earned Atlantic 10 All-Conference honors when she ranked 25th in the country with an 18.9 points per game average as a senior. The physical education major also earned Academic All-Conference honors as a senior while also being named to the Capital One Academic All-District Second Team.

After her collegiate career, Shoniker played in Belarus with Team Olimpia Grodno where she earned First-Team All-Belarusian League and First-Team All-Import.

A graduate of Greece Arcadia High School, Shoniker left the school as Monroe County's all-time leading scorer with 2,216 career points.
