Tim Edwards Named to US Lacrosse Roster for Heritage Cup

Former Canisius standout Tim Edwards '15 has been named to the US Lacrosse roster for the Heritage Cup, an exhibition game between the United States and Canadian indoor men's lacrosse teams, that will take place Oct. 21 at the FirstOntario Centre in Hamilton, Ontario.

The exhibition contest is part of the process that head coach Regy Thorpe and his staff will use to put together the team that will ultimately represent the United States at the next Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Indoor Lacrosse Championship, which will be held Sept. 19-28, 2019 at the Langley Events Centre in British Columbia, Canada.

Just the second player in school history to earn All-MAAC accolades in each of his four seasons with the Griffs, Edwards finished his collegiate career ranked eighth in school history with 145 career points, fourth with 80 career assists and third with a .558 faceoff percentage.

The Jamesville, N.Y., native played a key role on campus right from the start. The 2012 MAAC Rookie of the Year, Edwards scored the game-winning goal in the conference's title game as a freshman, helping lead the Griffs to their second NCAA Tournament appearance in school history. Overall, Edwards was named to the All-MAAC First Team in 2013, 2014 and 2015 after earning second-team distinction as a rookie.

During his senior campaign, Edwards led the Griffs in points (30), assists (13), ground balls (70), faceoff percentage (.528) and caused turnovers by a short-stick player (8). He set career highs as a junior in points (44), assists (29) and in faceoff percentage (.611), ranking eighth nationally at the faceoff X.

A fourth-round pick (36th overall) of the Buffalo Bandits in the 2015 National Lacrosse League Draft, Edwards made his debut with the organization in 2017, appearing in 12 contests. He tallied two goals and five assists while winning 53.4 percent of his faceoffs (184/334) and adding 67 loose balls.

Edwards also played with the Florida Launch of Major League Lacrosse this past season, finishing his inaugural season with seven goals and three assists in 11 games to help the team qualify for the postseason for the first time in franchise history.
