BUFFALO – For the first time in program history, Canisius has captured the Atlantic Hockey Conference regular season championship.
The Griffs claimed the top spot in the league standings with a mark of 18-4-6 for 42 points. Canisius finished one point ahead of second-place Air Force (19-6-3), who fell in overtime to Sacred Heart in its regular season finale on Saturday.
The regular season title gives the Griffs the No. 1 seed for the 2017 Atlantic Hockey Tournament. Canisius also receives one of five first round byes and will host the lowest remaining seed in a best-of-three quarterfinal round series March 10-12 at KeyBank Rink in HARBORCENTER.
