Murray Named Canisius Student Athlete of the Week

Hockey senior Jeff Murray has been named the Canisius Student-Athlete of the Week. Murray, who holds a 3.61 grade point average as a sport management major, has appeared in all 13 games for the Golden Griffins this season, ranking fifth on the team with eight points on two goals and six assists.

The Newmarket, Ontario, product has recorded multiple point games in victories over Air Force, Mercyhurst, and Bentley. A AHCA All-American Scholar for the 2016-17 season, Murray is currently tied for second on the team with 20 blocked shots.

The Canisius athletic department has a strong tradition of success in the classroom, with 17 varsity programs recording a grade point average of 3.0 or better in the 2016-17 spring semester. Fourteen teams recorded a team GPA of 3.25 or higher, and the school's 330 student-athletes combined to post a department grade point average of 3.28 in the spring session.

Additionally, last spring saw a record 27 student-athletes earn a perfect 4.0 grade point average for the semester. Those 27 student-athletes represent 12 different teams. A total of 227 student-athletes hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, which breaks down to 69 percent of the College's student-athlete population.

Hockey returns to action Dec. 2 when it hosts No. 3 Clarkson in a 7:35 p.m. contest at KeyBank Rink at HARBORCENTER.
