Griffs & AHA Move to Max Scholarship Level

Following Atlantic Hockey's annual directors meeting, the league has announced that the scholarship limit will once again increase. A major move regarding the future of Atlantic Hockey, the directors voted to move to 18 scholarships, the maximum allowed per the NCAA.

“This is another step forward for our league” said Commissioner DeGregorio. “Increasing the scholarship limit to 18 incrementally will allow us to maintain our vision of not leaving any of our members behind while increasing our competitiveness nationally. Our teams have made great strides in recent years and this will continue that trend.”

“The move to allow the maximum 18 scholarships legitimizes our league nationally,” said Canisius head coach Dave Smith. “It allows us to attract the most elite players in the country and puts us on a level playing field with all the leagues that currently give scholarships. This is going to help the Canisius hockey program and all of Atlantic Hockey reach a new standard of competition.”

The 2013 Atlantic Hockey Champions and NCAA Tournament invitee, Canisius is joined in the conference by AIC, Air Force, Army West Point, Bentley, Holy Cross, Mercyhurst, Niagara, RIT, Robert Morris and Sacred Heart.
