All this week, Canisius will introduce the four female nominees for the 2015-16 Rookie of the Year Award. After all four candidates for this award are posted on Monday and Tuesday, fans will have the chance to vote on who they think will win the award in an online poll which will run on GoGriffs.com through Wednesday evening. The 2015-16 Canisius Female Rookie of the Year will be officially introduced Thursday, June 9 at noon.

Maria Welch – women's basketball
Canisius freshman Maria Welch is the third nominee announced for the 2015-16 Canisius Female Rookie of the Year Award. Welch earned MAAC All-Rookie Team honors after she finished the season with 8.7 points per game, which ranked third-best on the roster.
Stats and Awards
• Honored as a member of the 2016 MAAC All-Rookie Team, Welch played in all 30 games, making eight starts in her rookie campaign. • Scored in double-figures in 11 of the team's last 13 games, highlighted by her season-high 23-point effort against Monmouth in February. • She drilled a career-high six 3-point field goals in a road win at Monmouth, and she ended her first year in Blue and Gold ranked 11th in the MAAC with 1.7 3-pointers made per game. • Welch shot 36.7 percent from behind the 3-point line last season, which ranked fifth-best in the MAAC.
