Canisius freshman Dylan McLaughlin has been named the 2015-16 Canisius Male Rookie of the Year, it was announced Thursday.
McLaughlin, the Canisius hockey team Rookie of the Year, was the only freshman on the hockey roster to play in all 39 games for the Golden Griffins last year. The Lancaster, N.Y., native ranked 22nd nationally and fourth in Atlantic Hockey among rookies with his 26 points after he scored eight goals to go along with 18 assists. He matched the program record for assists in a game when he posted four in a Canisius win over Bentley, and he closed out the year by recording 19 points in the Griffs' final 19 games.
McLaughlin received national honors Feb. 16 when he was named the NCAA Third Star of the Week, the same week he was honored as the Atlantic Hockey Player of the Week. He also received the league's Rookie of the Week accolades Jan. 12.
