Box Score The Canisius College men's lacrosse team suffered at 17-9 loss at first-place Quinnipiac on Saturday afternoon. The Griffs are now 3-6 on the season and 2-3 against MAAC foes, while the Bobcats improve to 7-3 and 4-0 in conference play.
Sophomore Connor Kearnan led the Griffs with four points in the loss, netting a hat trick to go along with one assist. Junior Lewis Vaccaro added his first collegiate hat trick, while senior Nick Tuttle, junior Jeff Edwards and sophomore Ryan McKee also added a tally for Canisius.
Both teams came out strong offensively and after 16 minutes of play, the Bobcats held a slight 5-4 advantage. However, Quinnipiac netted six-straight tallies to take a commanding 11-4 lead in the opening minutes of the third quarter.
Kearnan and Vaccaro ended the run by scoring 43 seconds apart to cut the Quinnipiac advantage to five, 11-6. However, the Bobcats responded with a 4-1 streak to take a 15-7 lead en route to the 17-9 victory.
The Bobcats outshot the Griffs, 46-29, on the afternoon, while also claiming 18-of-30 faceoffs. Brian Feldman netted seven goals to lead the Quinnipiac offense, with Jack Brust anchoring the defense with 12 saves.
Canisius returns to action on Tuesday with a home non-conference game against Robert Morris. Faceoff at the Demske Sports Complex is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Game Notes: The 17 goals allowed are the most by the Griffs in a conference game since a 17-12 loss to Detroit on March 17, 2012 … Canisius has now been outscored, 16-1, during the second quarter of the last four games … Edwards added two assists on the day and now has at least three points in eight-straight games – the longest run by a Griff since Cort Knodel in 1997.
