The Canisius college outdoor track team will compete in the MAAC Championship this weekend for the second time since the team restored the track program. The Championship will take place on May 2 & 3 and will be hosted at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, N.J.
The Griffs competed in the Championships last season and recorded a seventh place finish on the men's side and a ninth place finish on the women's side. So far during the outdoor track season, the Griffs have competed in the Bucknell University Bison Classic, the Cornell Upstate Challenge and the Cardinal Classic.
Three Golden Griffins men's team members recorded their top-times on the season last weekend at the Cardinal Classic. Travis Jordon and Jeffrey Antolos recorded times of 3:58.68 and 3:59.63 in the 1500 Meter-Run and Cooper Roach recorded a time of 15:09.92 in the 5000-Meter Run. On the women's side, Macey Walker set a season-best time in the 5000-Meter Run with a time of 18:47.13.
The Griffs are led by Carlin Sullivan who ranks 12th in the conference in the 5000-Meter Run with a time of 17:58.10 and Morgan Atkins who ranks third in the MAAC with a time of 40:33.11 in the 10,000-Meter. Overall on the men's team, the Griffs are led by Roach who ranks third in the 1500-Meter with a time of 3:49.47, Jordon who ranks eighth in the 800-Meter with a time of 1:54.55 and Chad Maloy who ranks sixth in the 10,000-Meter Run with a time of 30:23.40.
The outdoor season has been successful so far this year, with the team breaking multiple records and setting career-bests every week.
After the MAACs this weekend, the Griffs will look to compete in the ECAC/IC4A Championships on May 15 - 17 in Princeton, N.J. for their final meet of the 2015 season.
