The Golden Griffins track team is set to travel to Ithaca, N.Y., on Saturday afternoon to compete in the Cornell Upstate Challenge at 1:00 p.m.
The meet will be the second indoor track meet of the winter season for the Canisius team. The Griffs traveled to Ithaca, N.Y., two weeks ago to compete in the Southern Tier Collegiate Open and the Golden Griffins set multiple school records and personal bests.
Red-Shirt senior Chad Maloy ran in the 3000-meter race and finished with a personal best time of 8:29.56, good enough for second in the event. The time of 8:29.56 was over 13 seconds better then Maloy's previous best in the 3000-meter and it also set the school record by three seconds. Behind Maloy's record-breaking performance was Brennan Root's third place finish in the 1000-meter run. Root finished with a time of 2:31.96, which was the third fastest time in school history and just two seconds off a 26-yeaer old school record.
For the women, Haley Keene finished in third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:27.11 and Brandi Pettit finished in 12th in the 1000-meter. Four other Griffs finished in the top-20 in the women's 3000-meter run.
