Junior
Megan Tock of the Canisius College
women's soccer team was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Defensive
Player of the Week for her shutout performance
in goal in the Golden Griffins' lone match this weekend versus Duquesne, the
conference office announced on Monday afternoon.
Making
her seventh start of the season, Tock collected 10 saves in the Griffs' 2-0
victory over Duquesne on Friday evening. The junior secured her second shutout
of the season, third of her career.
"Megan stepped up this weekend and had a great game versus
Duquesne. She had many great saves to help our team get our second win of the
season," said head coach Jim
Wendling. "She is very capable of playing like
this in net each game. She needs to continue this outstanding play in goal to
help our team as we head toward conference play."
Tock's
selection marked the first time a Griffs' goalkeeper earned conference honors
since Leslie Ivancic on Oct. 25, 2010.
The
Blue and Gold return to action this weekend with a pair of contests. The Griffs
open the weekend on Friday evening at 7 p.m. at Bucknell for their fourth
straight road match before returning to the Demske Sports Complex on Sunday
against Little Three rival St. Bonaventure at 1 p.m.
