Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Nuttall, Smith Pace Women’s Soccer in 1-0 Victory Versus Manhattan

Sophomore defender Emilia Nuttall scored the 63rd minute to break a scoreless tie and lift Canisius to a 1-0 victory over Manhattan in Metro Conference women's soccer action Saturday at the Demske Sports Complex.

Junior Ally Smith made Nuttall's second-half goal stand as she recorded three saves to earn her first career shutout for the Golden Griffins (7-8-1, 4-6-1 Metro).

Margaret Brunk finished with two saves in goal for the Jaspers (9-3-3, 6-2-3 Metro).

Nuttall's game-winning goal came at the 62:02 mark of the contest when she headed home a free kick off the foot of senior Jessica Whitaker for her second goal in as many contests.
That was all the support Smith and the Canisius defense needed as they held the Jaspers to just one shot on goal over the remainder of regulation to earn the one-goal victory.

Earlier in the contest, the best chance for either team in the first half came in the 40th minute when junior Ava Pickard played a ball from the top of the box that Brunk deflected off the crossbar and out of danger to keep the game scoreless.
