QUICK HITTERS
  • The Canisius College women's basketball team starts a four-game road trip on Thursday, when the Golden Griffins travel to Baltimore to face Loyola University.
  • Canisius defeated Loyola 65-55 on Friday, in the Koessler Athletic Center.
  • Canisius has won two of the last three games between the teams in Reitz Arena, but the Greyhounds won 57-49 last season.
  • Canisius is playing a MAAC opponent in the regular season twice in the span of seven days for the third time in program history (Rider in February 1998 and Manhattan in February 1999 ).
  • Through Monday 's games, the Griffs are fifth in the country with an assist on 69.6 percent of their field goals. Canisius had 36 assists on 43 baskets (83.7 percent) last weekend.
  • Junior Ashley Wilkes, who is second in the MAAC (51.6) in field goal percentage, is averaging 12.3 points in the last four games (all starts), including a career-high 19 points against Loyola on Friday.
  • Junior Ashley Durham leads the team with a 12.9 scoring average through 10 conference games and matched her career high with nine assists against Rider on Sunday.
  • Freshman Kayla Hoohuli is averaging 11.0 points per game through the first 10 MAAC games,  the highest average by a Canisius freshman since Shauna Geronzin in 1998-99.
  • At the start of the week, Canisius ranks sixth nationally in free-throw percentage and currently leads the MAAC at 78.4 percent. Durham ranks 11th nationally (88.5 percent).
  • In its last 15 games against MAAC opponents, Canisius has held the opposition to 25.3 percent, from behind the arc.
  • Thursday's game is a part of the Jesuit Basketball Spotlight - a nationwide effort to capitalize on basketball games between Jesuit schools and, through those games, bring greater positive awareness and exposure to Jesuit education and its shared mission.
  • The 2011-12 Golden Griffin roster features zero seniors for the first time since the 2004-05 team. Every other roster in the MAAC features at least two seniors.

SCOUTING THE GRIFFS

  • Sophomore Jamie Ruttle, the 2011 MAAC Rookie of the Year, leads Canisius in scoring (10.5) and rebounding (5.2). She has scored in double figures in 15 career games in conference play and is shooting 51.4 percent on two-point shots in the last 13 games.
  • Junior Ashley Durham is second in the MAAC in assists per game (4.5). Durham has scored in double figures in four of the last five and nine of the last 13 games. She ranks first in the conference in free-throw percentage (88.9) and has made 77 of her last 84 free throws.
  • Sophomore Jen Morabito, a MAAC All-Rookie Team selection, has made 43 3-point field goals this season, accounting for 72.9 percent of her made field goals. Morabito has made three or more 3-pointers in nine games and has scored in double figures 11 times.
  • Freshman Kayla Hoohuli has 37 3-pointers in the last 16 games. Through 10 MAAC games, Hoohuli is shooting 48.1 percent on 3-pointers, which is second in the conference and averaging 11.0 points per game.. Hoohuli has drawn a team-high eight charges on the season.
  • Junior Ashley Wilkes has at least five rebounds in 10 games this season and has recorded at least one steal in 12 games. Wilkes leads the team with a 51.6 field goal percentage, including a 57.1 field goal percentage at home.
  • Junior Allison Braun, the team's captain for the 2011-12 season,  has missed the last four games and is out indefinitely with a leg injury. Braun is shooting 50.7 percent from the field in her last 14 appearances and has at least one steal in 14 of her last 16 appearances.
  • Sophomore Courtney VandeBovenkamp had a season-high 11 rebounds at Iona on Jan. 22.  She is shooting 47.1 percent in the last nine games and has made 21 of her last 22 free throws. 
  • Sophomore Jen Lennox has scored six or more points in seven games this season, including eight against Loyola on Friday. The 6-foot-3 forward has a block in 26 career games.
  • Junior Melissa Gardner is averaging 14.3 minutes in the last seven games and 8.2 rebounds per 40 minutes.
  • Freshman Brooke Angelos is averaging 5.0 assists per 40 minutes.

LOYOLA SCOUT

  • Loyola enters Thursday's game at 8-13 overall and 4-6 in the MAAC. The Greyhounds have won three of their last five games.
  • Loyola is 4-4 in home games this season, but 1-4 in conference games at Reitz Arena. 
  • Senior Miriam McKenzie ranks fourth in the MAAC at 14.2 points and third in the conference at 8.1 rebounds per game. 
  • Junior Katie Sheahin is fifth in the MAAC at 14.2 points per game , eighth at 6.3 rebounds per game, seventh at 3.3 assists per game and sixth nationally at 3.7 steals per game. 
  • Freshman Kara Marshall earned MAAC Rookie of the Week honors Monday after averaging 21.5 points and 2.5 steals per game while shooting 53.6 percent overall and 41.2 percent on 3-pointers.
  • In MAAC play, Loyola is averaging 57.8 points per game while allowing 58.0 points. The Greyhounds are shooting 38.7 percent from the floor and allowing 39.2 percent. The Greyhounds are fifth in turnover margin (+0.2), third in defensive rebounding percentage (67.7) and ninth in offensive rebounding percentage (29.4)
  • Joe Logan is in his seventh season at Loyola and has a 104-101 career record. Logan led the team to a 15-3 record in the MAAC last season, and won a WNIT game at Old Dominion.

SERIES HISTORY VS. LOYOLA

  • Canisius holds a 27-25 lead in the all-time series between the teams. 
  • The teams have split their 22 meetings in Baltimore. The Griffs have won two of the last three at Reitz Arena but the Greyhounds won 57-49 last season.
  • Canisius and Loyola have met in the MAAC Championship four times in the last seven years, including an overtime win by Loyola in last year's quarterfinals.
  • Canisius defeated Loyola 65-55 on Friday, in the KAC. Junior Ashley Wilkes had a career-high 19 points while freshman Kayla Hoohuli had 15 points, going 3-for-6 on 3-pointers. Canisius shot 46.9 percent from the floor as a team and held Miriam McKenzie to four points (2-for-15 on field goal attempts).
