Junior
Brianna Smith of the Canisius
College women's soccer team was named to the All-Metro Atlantic Athletic
Conference First Team, as announced by the conference office on Thursday
afternoon. Smith's
selection marked the second time in her career that she has earned the first-team
honor.
Starting
14 games, Smith led the Griffs in goals (11), points (22), shots (57), shot
percentage (.193), shots on goal (30), and game-winning goals (3). The forward
moved into the school's top-10 list in both career points and goals. Smith slid
into seventh place in most career points (64) and fourth in career goals (29).
This season, Smith earned her
first MAAC Offensive Player of the Week honor for her performance against Saint
Peter's and Manhattan during the weekend of Oct. 12. The junior scored
game-winning goals in both contests, including her first career hat trick
against Saint Peter's to lead the Griffs. In addition to the conference honor,
she was named the ECAC Offensive Player of the Week. It would mark the first
time in her career that Smith received either weekly honor.
Among
the conference statistics leaders, Smith finished second in both points (22)
and goals (11), and tied for third in game-winning goals (3). Against
conference opponents, she ranked second in goals (seven), scoring seven of the
team's 10 goals in conference play.
As a freshman, Smith received
All-MAAC First Team honors en route to being named the 2010 MAAC Rookie of the
Year, as a prolific goal-scorer with 14 goals and five assists for 33 points.
