Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Advances to MAAC Championship with PK Victory over Quinnipiac

No. 3 seed Canisius defeated No. 2 seed Quinnipiac in penalty kicks, 4-3, to advance after the two sides played to a 1-1 draw in semifinal round action in the 2025 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Championship Thursday afternoon at the Quinnipiac Soccer and Lacrosse Stadium in Hamden, Conn.

Junior Maggie Cregan tallied the lone goal in regulation for the Golden Griffins (8-8-2), who advanced to Sunday's championship game, where they will face fourth-seeded Sacred Heart, which knocked off regular season champion Fairfield Thursday evening. Freshman keeper Chloe Tseros finished with six saves in goal for Canisius.

Corey Anderson accounted for the lone tally for the Bobcats (8-3-6). Olivia Jarvis recorded three saves in goal for Quinnipiac.

During the best-of-five penalty kick shootout, Canisius converted on each of its first three attempts while Quinnipiac misfired on two of its first three shots to give the Griffs a 3-1 lead in the tiebreaker session.

The Bobcats pushed the shootout to a fifth round after they were successful on their fourth try, while Jarvis smothered the potential clinching attempt off the foot of sophomore Azaria Fagan.

Quinnipiac kept its hopes alive when Caroline Matyczyk scored on her attempt in the top half of the fifth round, setting the stage for senior Lizzy Harkness, who buried her try into the lower left-hand side of the Bobcats' cage to send the Griffs to their first MAAC Championship Game appearance since 2010.

Earlier in the contest, Cregan staked Canisius to a 1-0 lead in the 49th minute, converting a penalty kick opportunity after the Bobcats were called for a foul in the box.

Anderson netted the equalizer less than six minutes later, firing a free kick into the upper right-hand corner of the net from just outside the top of the box to knot the game at 1-1.

The game headed to overtime, where the best chance to break the deadlock came in the second extra-session when a shot from Quinnipiac's Isabella Torelli was cleared off the line to keep the game tied at 1-1, setting the stage for the Griffs' shootout heroics.
