Canisius College women's lacrosse head coach Scott Teeter announced the addition of
five players to the 2013 roster on Thursday. Ashley Bull, Claudia Coleates, Cody Kucharski, Caroline Ogden and Alexis Roskovich have all signed National Letters
of Intent to join the reigning MAAC Champions, beginning in the 2013 season.
"We're excited to welcome the addition of this talented
class to continue the success of our program," Teeter said. "This class will
have some big shoes to fill by replacing a class that has taken our program to
the next level. I believe that this class will be able to step in and continue
to raise the bar at Canisius."
Bull, a defender from Langley, British Columbia, served as
team captain for the Langley Lightning field lacrosse team. The Langley Minor
Lacrosse Association Player of the Year, she led the Lightning in scoring and
was named the team's MVP. In addition, she played box lacrosse with the Langley
Thunder and the New Westminster Salmonbellies, leading the Salmonbellies to the
provincial championship and earning MVP accolades. Bull also played for
Canadian Under-19 National Team, which earned the bronze medal at the 2011
World Championship.
"Ashley is a game-changing player," Teeter said. "Her
national team experience will ease the transition to the Division I level.
Ashley is very athletic who is just realizing her potential and will be counted
on to make plays on the defensive end."
A goaltender from Stanley, N.Y., Coleates posted a 4.26
goals against average and .651 save percentage during her junior campaign. She
was named to the Daily Messenger
All-Star Team last season, while also earning first-team all-league honors in
2011.
"Claudia is a very tactical goalie," Teeter said. "She comes
from a very experienced high school program that has competed for the state
championship and we look forward to that continued success at Canisius with her
in net."
A midfielder from Watertown, N.Y., Kucharski has totaled 223
points, 120 goals and 103 assists during her career. She earned 2011 Frontier
League All-Star honors after receiving honorable mention as a freshman and
sophomore.
"Cody is a great two-way midfielder that has the potential
to step in right away," Teeter said. "She excels at both ends of the field and
will be counted on to produce at an all-conference level."
Ogden, an attack from Ridgefield, Conn., has led the
Ridgefield Tigers in scoring in each of the last two seasons, accumulating 146
points, 103 goals and 43 assists during her career. She earned first-team
all-state accolades following the 2011 campaign as well as first-team All-FCIAC
honors.
"Caroline is a very powerful attacker," Teeter said. "She
has a tremendous shot and she reminds me a lot of (2010 All-MAAC selection)
Ashley Curtis. We will rely on her to produce points on the offensive end."
Roskovich has won three letters at Parkside High School. The
defender earned All-Bayside Region accolades on three occasions and was also
selected to the US Lacrosse All-Academic Team in 2011.
"Alexis is a excellent defender from Maryland," Teeter said.
"She brings a lot of size. She has a strong work ethic that will fit well
within our defensive systems."
Canisius returns 13 letterwinners and five starters in 2012
from the most successful season in the program's history. The Griffs won a
school-record 14 games in 2011, while claiming their first MAAC Championship.
