Women's Lacrosse Announces Postseason Award Winners

The 2011 MAAC Women's Lacrosse Champions, Canisius announced its postseason award winners at the team's annual banquet during the weekend.

Senior Taylor Gray earned the team's Most Valuable Offensive Player award after a record-setting campaign. A second-team All-MAAC selection, Gray accumulated 69 points as a senior, netting 44 goals to go along with 25 assists. Her 69 points are the most in the program's history, topping the previous mark of 65. The senior also led the Canisius attack at the MAAC Tournament with 11 points, earning All-Tournament accolades and helping the Griffs to the program's first conference title.

The Baldwinsville, N.Y. native graduates as one of the best players in the program's history. During her standout career, Gray totaled 149 points, 80 goals and 69 assists. She graduates ranked fourth in the school's record book in career points, sixth in career goals and second in career assists.

Senior goalkeeper Allison Daley collected the team's Most Valuable Defensive Player award, becoming the first player in the program's history to earn the honor twice. A first-team All-MAAC selection for the second-consecutive season, Daley posted a .496 save percentage and 10.27 goals against average as a senior. She currently ranks seventh nationally with her .496 save percentage. The senior also led the Griffs to the program's first conference title, earning MAAC Tournament MVP honors following a 13-save performance against Fairfield in the championship game.

During her career, Daley established the program's record with 662 career saves, which also ranks as the second most in the country among active players. She also owns the first, second, third and fifth-highest single-season save marks in the school's history.

Senior Jackie Loson received the Kathy Fiore Memorial Award. The three-time all-conference selection anchored a young defensive unit this season as the Griffs lowered its scoring defense by more than a goal. She ranked second on the team with 43 ground balls and 24 draw controls plus third with 19 caused turnovers.

Maria Kotas earned the team's Rookie of the Year award following a strong freshman season where she garnered all-conference accolades. Kotas recorded 21 points, 15 goals and six assists as a rookie, while ranking second on the team with 20 caused turnovers, third with 30 ground balls and fourth with 21 draw controls. A second-team All-MAAC selection and a member of the conference's All-Tournament Team, Kotas is the first Canisius rookie to earn All-MAAC honors since Ashley Gray in 2006.

Freshman Taylor Smith was named the team's Iron Woman of the Year. Smith appeared in 11 games with one starting assignment on defense, collecting one assist, two ground balls, one draw control and one caused turnover.
