Seven
members of the Canisius College women's lacrosse team earned All-MAAC honors on
Thursday night at the conference's annual banquet, the most of any school in
the league.
Seniors
Allison Daley and Carly Quinn plus junior Megan Oosting earned first-team accolades, while seniors Taylor Gray and Jackie Loson, sophomore Lindsey Morgan and freshman Maria Kotas were named to the All-MAAC Second
Team.
Canisius'
seven selections match the school record for a single season and are one more
than Fairfield's six honorees on the night.
As
a senior, Daley leads the MAAC and ranks eighth in the country with a .495 save
percentage to go along with a goals against average of 10.06. During her
standout career, Daley has accumulated 629 career saves, the third-most in the
country among active players. The all-conference honors is the third in her
career, also earning first-team accolades last season and second-team honors in
2009.
Quinn
ranks second on the team this season with 56 points during the 2011 campaign,
recording 37 goals and 19 assists, The Orangeville, Ontario native, who led
all players in the conference in scoring during league games with 27 points,
finished the regular season ranked third in the MAAC with 3.29 points per game,
seventh with 2.18 goals per game and fifth with 1.12 assists per game.
Through
her first three seasons with the Griffs, Quinn ranks sixth in the program's
history with 116 career points, seventh with 70 career goals and fourth with 46
career assists.
Oosting
earned All-MAAC First Team accolades for the second-straight season. During her
junior campaign, Oosting leads the team with 45 goals, 71 draw controls and 26
caused turnovers, while ranking second on the squad with 38 ground balls plus
third with 55 points and 10 assists. The midfielder set a school record with
her 71 draw controls this season and currently ranks ninth in the country with
4.18 draws per game.
As
a junior, Oosting joined Gray and Quinn as the seventh member of the school's
100-point club. The Lakefield, Ontario native ranks seventh in the program's
record book with 111 career points, fifth with 89 career goals and eighth with
22 career assists.
Gray
earned all-conference accolades for the first time in her career after having
her most productive season as a senior. She leads the team with 57 points this
season, netting 41 goals to go along with 16 assists. Gray finished the regular
season ranked second in the MAAC with 3.35 points per game and fourth with 2.41
goals per game.
The
Baldwinsville, N.Y. native will graduate in May as one of the best players in
the program's history. Gray currently ranks fourth in the school's record book
with 137 career points, sixth with 77 career goals and second with 60 career
assists.
Loson,
who earned second-team all-conference honors for the third-straight season, anchored
a defensive unit that lowered its goals against average by more than a goal
despite losing four starters to graduation. During the 2011 campaign, Loson
leads the Griffs with 41 ground balls to go along with five points, three
goals, two assists, 20 draw controls and 17 caused turnovers.
In
her second season at Canisius, Morgan registered 20 points, 14 goals, six
assists, 26 ground balls, 18 draw controls and 17 caused turnovers. She
currently ranks second on the team in caused turnovers plus third in both draw
controls and ground balls.
Kotas
is the first Canisius rookie to garner all-conference accolades since Ashley
Gray earned second-team honors in 2006. As a freshman, Kotas totaled 15 points,
11 goals, four assists, 25 ground balls, 17 caused turnovers and 15 draw
controls.
In
addition to the Griffs' seven all-conference selections, nine Canisius
student-athletes were honored for their work in the classroom. Daley, Loson and
Quinn were joined by seniors Kaitlyn
Black, Mary
Butlak and Kathleen
DiPasquale, junior Rachel Brand and sophomores Kate Gosson and Gina Molfetta on the MAAC All-Academic Team.
The
second-seeded Griffs open MAAC Tournament play on Friday, squaring off against
third-seeded Siena. First draw on the campus of Iona is set for noon.
