QUICK HITTERS

  • The Canisius College women's basketball team begins its 2011-12 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference schedule against Siena College on Monday evening.
  • Canisius enters MAAC play on a three-game winning streak for the first time since Jan. 11-18, 2010, and has won six of its last nine games.
  • Canisius and Siena have split the regular-season series each of the last two years.
  • Canisius and Siena will meet in the first and last games of the conference schedule.
  • Canisius finished non-conference play with a winning record (6-5) for the third time under eighth-year coach Terry Zeh and for the first time since the 2008-09 season.

  • Junior Ashley Durham has 19 assists in the last three games. Durham ranks fourth in the MAAC in assists (4.2) and first in free-throw percentage (87.8).
  • Canisius sophomore Jen Morabito is tied for second in the MAAC in 3-point field goals made per game (2.4) and is fourth in the league in 3-point field goal percentage (40.0).
  • In the last three games, Canisius is shooting 88.3 percent from the free-throw line and ranks third in the MAAC on the season (75.6) in free-throw percentage. 
  • The 2011-12 Golden Griffin roster features zero seniors for the first time since the 2004-05 team. Every other roster in the MAAC features at least two seniors.

SCOUTING THE GRIFFS

  • Sophomore Jamie Ruttle, the 2011 MAAC Rookie of the Year, leads Canisius in scoring (11.6) and rebounding (5.0). She has scored in double figures in four of the last five games and also ranks fifth in the conference in free-throw percentage (75.6). 
  • Sophomore Jen Morabito, a MAAC All-Rookie Team selection, has made 26 3-point field goals this season. Morabito has made three or more 3-pointers in five games and has scored in double figures a team-high seven times this season.
  • Junior Allison Braun, the team's captain for the 2011-12 season, is shooting 50.0 percent from the field in the last eight games. Braun has at least five rebounds in six games and has at least one steal in nine of the last 10 games, tied for ninth in the MAAC at 1.6 steals per game.
  • Junior Ashley Durham has 19 assists in the last three contest and is fourth in the MAAC in assists per game (4.2). Durham also ranks first in the conference in free-throw percentage (87.8) and has made 26 of her last 27 free throws.
  • Freshman Kayla Hoohuli has 12 3-pointers in the last six games (shooting 40.7 percent) after making three 3-pointers in the opening five games. Hoohuli has 11 steals in the last nine games and has taken a team-high seven charges on the season.
  • Junior Ashley Wilkes has at least five rebounds in seven games this season and has recorded at least one steal in eight games. Wilkes leads the team with a 50.0 field goal percentage.
  • Sophomore Courtney VandeBovenkamp has started each of the last three games, scoring a season-high 14 points against Albany and then setting a career-high with five blocks against Cornell.
  • Sophomore Jen Lennox has scored six or more points in nine of the last 14 games. The 6-foot-3 forward has a block in 24 career games, including seven blocks in the last seven games.
  • Junior Melissa Gardner has scored 15 points with 14 rebounds and three assists while shooting 9-for-11 from the free-throw line in the last seven games (53 total minutes). 
  • Freshman Brooke Angelos is averaging 5.9 assists per 40 minutes.

SIENA SCOUT

  • Siena enters MAAC play with a 2-7 record, having snapped a five-game losing streak on Thursday night.
  • Siena played its best game of the season in a 78-51 win at Maine.
  • Siena returned two starters from last year's team that went 11-7 in the MAAC and finished in fouth place in the conference.
  • Junior Lily Grenci is fourth in the MAAC at 14.0 points per game, to go along with a team-best 7.0 rebounds per contest. Grenci scored 20 or more points for the third time this season in the win Maine.
  • Two other Saints are averaging double figures in seniors Cristina Centeno (11.6) and Maja Gerlyng (11.4). Centeno leads the team with 39 assists while Gerlyng has made a team-best 11 3-pointers.
  • Siena is averaging 57.4 points per game and allowing 63.0 points per game. The Saints have a 35.6 offensive rebounding percentage and 60.3 defensive rebounding percentage. 
  • Siena is shooting 36.3 percent from the floor and 22.6 percent on 3-pointers, while allowing its opponents to shoot 43.5 percent on 3-pointers.
  • Siena coach Gina Castelli is in her 22nd season leading the Saints. Castelli's 326 wins are the third-most in MAAC history and the 1986 Canisius graduate has led Siena to seven MAAC regular-season titles and the 2001 MAAC Championship.

SERIES HISTORY VS. SIENA

  • Canisius and Siena are meeting for the 62nd time, with the Saints holding a 40-21 lead in the all-time series. Siena is the second-most common opponent in program history, behind Niagara.
  • The teams have split the season series each of the last two years and Canisius has won four of the last six meetings overall.
  • Siena defeated Canisius 40-32 in last year's regular-season finale in Loudonville while Canisius won 60-48 in Buffalo.
  • Canisius snapped a nine-year losing streak in Loudonville in 2006.
