QUICK HITTERS

  • The Canisius College women's basketball team concludes its three-game road stretch with Sunday's game at Kent State.
  • Sunday is the sixth and final non-conference road game of the 2011-12 season for the Griffs, who have played in four states (New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland).
  • Canisius and Kent State are playing for the second consecutive season and for the first time at Kent since Nov. 26, 1988.
  • Canisius leads the MAAC at 14.0 assists per game. The Griffs have an assist on 74.2 percent of their field goals, which is the second-highest total in the country. The next highest percentage in the MAAC is 60.8 percent (Manhattan).
  • Canisius is the only team in the MAAC with six players averaging six or more points per game. Marist and Rider each have five. 
  • Sophomore Jamie Ruttle leads the team at 10.3 points per game, ranking 14th in the MAAC.
  • Junior Ashley Wilkes leads the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference in FG percentage (56.1).
  • Sophomore Jen Morabito leads the MAAC and ranks 46th nationally at 2.5 3-point field goals per game. She is also fourth in the conference in 3-point field goal percentage (39.2). 
  • Junior Ashley Durham is fourth in the MAAC in free-throw percentage (85.7).
  • Canisius entered the week ranked 54th nationally in 3-pointfield goal percentage defense. Cansius has held its opponents to 20.0 percent from behind the arc in the last five games.
  • The 2011-12 Golden Griffin roster features zero seniors for the first time since the 2004-05 team. Every other roster in the MAAC features at least two seniors.

SCOUTING THE GRIFFS

  • Sophomore Jamie Ruttle, the 2011 MAAC Rookie of the Year leads Canisius in scoring (10.3) and has scored eight or more points in 21 of the last 29 games. Of Ruttle's 35 rebounds, 18 are offensive rebounds.
  • Sophomore Jen Morabito, a MAAC All-Rookie Team selection, has made 20 of the team's 39 3-point field goals this season. Morabito has made three or more 3-pointers in four games and has scored in double figures a team-high six times this season.
  • Junior Allison Braun, the team's captain for the 2011-12 season, is shooting 60.9 percent from the field in the last five games. Braun has at least five rebounds in five games, has at least one steal in each of the last six of the last seven games and has a career-high four assists in three games in 2011-12, including each of the last two.
  • Junior Ashley Durham has 27 assists in the opening seven games and is seventh in the MAAC in assists per game (3.4). Durham also ranks fourth in the conference in free-throw percentage (85.7) and has made her last 14 free throws.
  • Sophomore Jen Lennox has scored six or more points in eight of the last 11 games. The 6-foot-3 forward has a block in 22 career games, including five blocks in the last four games.
  • Junior Ashley Wilkes has at least five rebounds in six of the team's games this season and has recorded at least one steal in seven of eight games. Wilkes has shot 50 percent or better in four games this season.
  • Junior Melissa Gardner has scored 11 points with 10 rebounds and three assists while shooting 7-for-9 from the free-throw line in the last four games (40 total minutes). 
  • Sophomore Courtney VandeBovenkamp returned to the lineup against Eastern Michigan after missing the first three games of the season due to injury. VandeBovenkamp had five or more rebounds in 15 games as a freshman.
  • Freshman Kayla Hoohuli has six 3-pointers in the last three games after making three 3-pointers in the opening five games. Hoohuli has at least one steal in five of the last seven games and is averaging 5.3 rebounds in the last three games.
  • Freshman Brooke Angelos is averaging 6.2 assists per 40 minutes.

KENT STATE SCOUT

  • Kent State enters Sunday's game with a 1-6 record. The Golden Flashes last played since Dec. 6, at Temple.
  • Kent State has dropped four straight, with its only win coming Nov. 18, in a 65-64 win over Morehead State.
  • Kent State is 1-1 at home this season, defeating Morehead State and losing to St. Bonaventure (60-51 on Nov. 30). 
  • Trisha Krewson leads the team with a 10.7 points per game average along with a team-high 7.0 rebounds per game average. 
  • Of the 10 players on Kent State's roster, four are juniors and six are freshmen. Of those four juniors, two are in their first season at Kent State.
  • Of the 10 players who played against Canisius last year, only one is on this year's roster (Leslie Schaefer).
  • Kent State is averaging 49.9 points per game while allowing 68.7 points per game. The Golden Flashes have a 29.3 offensive rebounding percentage and a 58.3 defensive rebounding percentage. Kent State is shooting 25.9 percent from behind the arc, making 4.3 3-pointers per game. Kent State is averaging 26.3 turnovers per game.
  • Bob Lindsay is in his 23rd season at Kent State and has a career record of 412-234. Lindsay has the most wins of any coach in Mid-American Conference history. 

KENT STATE SERIES HISTORY

  • Sunday is the fourth all-time meeting between Canisius and Kent State and the second between the teams in Kent, Ohio.
  • Kent State defeated Canisius 60-54 in last year's season opener in the Koessler Athletic Center. Canisius rallied from an 11-point second-half deficit, tying the game at 53-53, but didn't score a field goal during the final 2:24 as the Golden Flashes pulled away.
  • Kent State defeated Canisius 78-76 in Kent, Ohio on Nov. 26, 1988.
  • Canisius' only win in the series came on Nov. 27, 1989, in a 63-50 win in the Lady Panthers Invitational in Pittsburgh.
